You were in a relationship with Ann for only 3 months but in the borderlands, where life could slip through your fingers in a flash, you both enjoyed every possible moment together. Day after day, your bond was only getting stronger. It wasn't all the time that you both would do the same games, you wouldn't always go together out of the fear of having to play a heart's game.

Sometimes you'd have someone else to go with. The fear of losing the other was too great to risk anything stupid. Luckily, neither of you minded, you knew that it was the only way, and both of you were independent enough not to be clingy and wanting to be with each other on each game. Nonetheless, you were afraid for her every time she left without you.

Yet, this time, as you were trying to escape from the king of spades, you stayed closer than ever. You ran and hid together and that felt like forever in a day. You both had managed to escape, but not without consequences. Despite spades being your specialty, you sometimes were very clumsy. As you were sprinting away with Ann, the King of Spades chasing and shooting at you, you tripped and landed on the floor with a thud.

At that moment and under the effect of adrenaline, you did not feel much and got up again to run. But it wasn't until you were hidden in the middle of the forest with your partner, that you felt the wrenching pain in your left ankle. Laying on the floor Ann was right by your side. Your injury was terribly painful. You took her hand and held it tightly to try to bare with the pain. She caressed your hair, your head resting on her legs.

━It's going to be alright, baby... she breathed as she looked down at you.

She tried to calm you down as much as she could but the worry was etched over her face as she saw the pain in your eyes.

━May I take a look? she asked. You nodded and Ann moved closer to your leg and looked at your swollen ankle. Her brow furrowed with concern before she turned back to you.

━That looks really bad, she said worriedly. You squint out a desperate noise, hiding your face in your hands.

━Can you try to move your feet a little bit? Maybe I can help you try to stand, she offered you.

Staying silent, you stood up to find yourself sitting down,  your weak hands taking hers to help you get back on your feet. As you were standing in front of her, your eyes in hers, she smiled tenderly.

━I know it's going to be painful, she stated.

Luckily it's not broken. But the fear, the pain, and the anxiety consumed you. You just wanted it all to end, you just wanted to go back to a normal world, with her. Just the two of you. As you thought about this, you realized that it would now be almost impossible for you to escape the king of spades. If he found you, you were screwed. Slowly, tears started to roll down your cheeks. You looked down at Ann, who was also mainly bruised. Her clothes also had blood on them. You both needed proper medical care, but you weren't going to get that here, you had to get out of here.

━Hey, baby girl, don't cry, please, we're gonna be okay. I need you to find some strength, okay? ━W-what if the King of Spades f-finds ... us ... a-gain ? you asked

She pulled you into her arms and held you tightly against her body. You were breathing heavily, still panicking as you buried your face in her neck. Of course, she was as concerned as you were but she wasn't going to show it right there in front of you. She had to keep up appearances for you to stay motivated. Without a desire to survive, you weren't going to make it.
