Everything had happened so quickly. A couple of days ago, your home, the Beach, was destroyed; burned by fire. You thought that maybe the game had finally ended, that the cards you collected were enough to get home.

You thought you would return to your real world, your real home. But seeing blood all over you, Tatta and Arisu on their knees and a mountain of bodies five feet away from you, you knew it wasn't going to end well.

You had heard enough about the militants to decide what type of people they were, and how far they were willing to go.

After seeing the massacre that started on the beach, Niragi shooting randomly, Last Boss's katana sliced through half of some of the player's necks, you were sure this was the end of it all. Tatta was looking around for a car in order to get away and you were hiding in a room, pointing your gun against the door, in case someone tried to come inside. Screams and gunshots, followed by explosions erupted all around.

Tatta didn't want you to put yourself in danger or fight, so that's why you were hiding, at least until you knew he was coming back. But the place was becoming more and more dangerous, fire was appearing in several places on the beach when you finally realized that you were not going to make it if you stayed in the small square room.

You heard people had yelled for you to go gather into the main room, so you did. They claimed to have found the witch, and when you came into the wide hall, you witnessed a furious Aguni, yelling and fighting with other men, trying to kill or hurt anyone that approached him. You couldn't deny the obvious fact that he was terrifying, absolutely dangerous even, and the crowd of people that had formed around him looked like they were watching a wild animal. They were scared and anxious. But despite all the chaos around you, all you wanted was to find Tatta first; you tried, but he wasn't there.

Your Tatta. There was no trace of him where you had left him. Your heart rate had rapidly accelerated at the thought of Tatta dying while trying to find a way to get out of there. Your brain made up a mental image of him getting killed in the middle of all this slaughter. It was the most horrible thing you could imagine.

After everything had gone down, you had been with Arisu, Usagi, Tatta. You were still guilt-ridden, thinking that he didn't make it out; heck, you weren't sure if anyone else made it out beside you, right now. It was a hard pill to swallow, but a necessary one so it wouldn't hurt as much if it came to be true.

Then Arisu burst into the hall. You felt instant relief in your body. It wasn't Tatta, but it was someone you trusted, a person who wouldn't hurt you.

Without hesitation and in a fraction of a second, Arisu dashed towards Aguni and stood in front of him, furious. No matter how much he tried to bring him back to his senses, the militant found himself in such a mindset that he could not hear anything he tried to say.

—And if you're not the witch, why won't you help us find the witch? He screamed as you observed the scene.

The pressure that had gone down at the sight of your friend only went up and up again and engulfed you in fear when you saw Aguni violently kicking Arisu's stomach. You were paralyzed, and so were most players around you. All of you were observing the horrific scene.

—Arisu! Usagi screamed, quickly getting up and running toward him. His face was already covered in blood and had multiple bruises, including a deep cut on his nose.

Aguni had hit him many times before, and he had suffered a good series of injuries from Niragi and his group, but still, he continued to stand up against him, somehow, stronger than ever. You admired him for his determination.

—Shoot him! Yelled someone in the crowd, obviously talking about shooting Aguni.
—No! Aguni's not the witch, Arisu interjected whilst still on the ground, he continued, with all the strength he had left: We're playing a ten of hearts game! It plays with your feelings and your emotions, you're not gonna win by killing Aguni.
He then turned his face to Aguni; the rest of you were silent, including the military himself.
—I know you're not the witch, he stated in a softer tone. The game master is just using all your painful feelings.
—So, who is the witch then? Usagi asked as she stepped into the heated argument.

Arisu slowly got up, his gestures were zombie-like, it looked like he was somewhere between life and death but something in him made him so determined to restore justice, that he did not seem at all helpless.
He gently reached out to the corpse lying under the archways in the back of the room.
His finger was pointing towards Momoka.

Silence engulfed the whole room. a heavy silence. you could have heard a fly pass by, assuming that they did really exist in the borderlands.
A couple minutes after, Ann entered the room, Kuina on his side.

—Reverse fingerprints were found on the knife!
So Momoka was really the game master, after all.

Realizing everything, people started to calm down, little by little. Through the crowd, you saw a few faces that you recognized. And one person you particularly cared for.
Tatta came back. He was safe and sound.

You ran into his arms, immediately sobbing. You had prayed that he was okay all along, and he really was. You couldn't be happier, Tatta was doing fine, he was alive.

After the Beach burned down, it had just been you, Tatta, Arisu, Usagi, Kuina, Ann and Chishiya for a couple of days. Although it didn't matter that much to you, you kind of hoped other people survived too.

You were sitting in the grass and Tatta was resting his head on your shoulder. you would try to spend as much time together as possible, it was necessary, you didn't know when would be the last time you would see each other. He had started talking about the beach and the fire, again. The accident may have caused you distress, but it had really affected him much more than you.

—How many games are we going to have to play until we get a chance to go back home?, he asked from beside you.
—None that we can't handle. You reassured, putting your arm around his body to pull him closer to you.

The place you two sat down was so peaceful. It was early in the morning, and the air felt cool and soothing, crisp inside your lungs. For once, the borderlands were not so worrying. Chishiya had found some abandoned apartment that had allowed you all a place to rest for a couple of nights and it was not too far away.

—Y/n?... I have to tell you something... Tatta started to say after placing his hand on yours.
—Of course, what is it? You asked him, stroking his hand gently with your thumb.
—I just- I'm so happy that I have you. I don't want to lose you, honestly, I am always so scared of that. I have no idea what would happen if I lost you. I don't even want to think about the possibility of a life without you. It would be impossible for me." He ranted, facial expressions matching his emotions.

You offered a sad, small smile to his statement before bringing your hand up to lift his chin up to face you.
—That won't happen, Tatta. You won't lose me. Sure, we are stuck here now, but I want to be with you forever, too, in the real world. You spoke softly, rubbing your thumb gently across his chin.
—I just... I just feel like there's no hope... He said, pulling himself away from you, tears starting to form in his eyes.

—Hey... look at me, you said, of course, there's hope. We're all here for each other, you, me, and our friends.

You couldn't give up now. Not so close to the end.
He glanced up at you, locked his eyes on you but stayed completely silent.
—Tatta! Come on! I won't die that easily! you exclaimed, trying to cheer him up.

He huffed and finally smiled again. You loved to see him smile, each time he would, your heart would light up. It made you the happiest human being.

—I trust you... he mumbled, pressing his body a little closer to yours.
