You told him you loved him precisely once, in the heat of the moment, when he had just saved you from certain death in a spades game. Spades were your weakness. So, Aguni, as the loyal friend he was, went with you to most of the games. Of course, you were scared of losing each other, after years of friendship. But he always told you he'd rather defend you as much as he could than let you die without being by your side.

Sometimes you wondered if it was just a token of friendship, or something more. You, Aguni, and Hatter were childhood friends. But he weirdly spent more time with you, and he didn't go to the games with the hatter as much as he went playing with you. Moreover, Hatter never minded much. Putting you often in the same team, smirking to Aguni when he announced it.

You were on the verge of tears as he dragged you out of the place where the game had taken place. 6 of spades was the game that you, Aguni, Niragi, and Last Boss had cleared, which guaranteed you all an extra 6 days added to your visa. You could never explain the fear you felt at that moment and you could never thank Aguni enough for what he had done for you. He had stepped in between you and a cheetah when he saw that you were not going to make it out alive. He had paid the price in the end, and you couldn't help feeling that it was your fault. The feline had scratched his head, leaving a large gaping wound across the left side of his face. You had been watching the seemingly endless battle, with an unspeakable fear in your stomach, your limbs numb, and your heart ready to leap out of your chest. After what seemed like hours of fighting the cheetah, Aguni miraculously managed to kill him and consequently managed to save you.

He had been your guardian angel. And when he stood up from the ground, face dripping with blood, you definitely felt like your heart stopped beating for a second. Without even saying a word, literally unable to form a coherent sentence, you let him take you by the arm and carry the majority of your weight outside of the arena. He had always been rather taller than you, but at that moment you felt really small next to him. When you got out, you let your emotions take over as you released the pressure. He let go of your arm and was about to start talking, probably to blame you for being so oblivious in a game where you were risking your life, but something inside you decided to cut him off before he even started.

—Y-You k-know wh-what? You muttered, still shaking as the blood continued to spill from his wound.

There was a second of silence and you saw him nod to encourage you to continue talking. But you didn't finish your sentence. Instead, you took off your shirt to tie it around his wound like an eye patch, to compress it and prevent too much bleeding. He let you do it without complaining much but still did not fail to let out a slight grunting noise when you tightened the shirt. Obviously, that must hurt like hell. He spoke a weak 'thank you', before asking you again what was the thing you had not yet said.

You looked at him, analyzing his face, always cold but which you had learned to cherish, which you had learned to love. And you took your courage in both hands since you had almost died and lost him forever... all because of a wild feline, you understood that you had nothing to lose by confessing your feelings to him.

—Y-you were amazing... I- Ehm- thanks f-for saving me... — I really k-kind of —I-I-I've really come to see... t-that, eh... —I love you, you know?

Your words sounded horribly insecure. But that was all you could tell him. You were already so afraid of the way he could react by hearing those words. You were consumed by a visceral fear of ruining a friendship that had lasted a lifetime, and obviously, you were terrified of being mistaken about his intentions.

You stared at him as he stayed silent. It was taking him a while to speak. But he couldn't manage to say anything. For once, Aguni was completely speechless.

—L-look, Aguni, I'm s—

You wanted to tell him that you were serious. But you heard a sharp laugh, mocking and loud, the kind of laugh you hated to hear because you knew it was anything but honest. And as soon as you looked away from Aguni's face, you saw Niragi walking towards the both of you, a teasing smile plastered on his face. Last Boss was following him, as silent as ever.
