Jane walked to lunch full of anxiety. she felt sick to her stomach just remembering the conversation she had with kurt. the awkwardness of it all killed her.a part of her wished she never pushed herself away from kurt. she told herself it was for the better, that it had to be done due to her quick closeness with him and the romantic feelings that had came along with the friendship.
jane pushed these thoughts away and found her way into the cafeteria, quickly sitting down at an empty table.
jane noticed a figure sit in front of her. she whipped her head up to find gary sitting across from her.
"so, how is it?" gary asked as soon as he sat. jane gave him a confused look.
"i mean your first day. is it everything you hoped and dreamed of?" gary asked with a small smirk. jane tittered, "yeah, right. nothing crazy has happened yet, but i'm fine with that." she shrugged.
"that's aberdeen for you. quiet and boring." gary added.
"sounds perfect for me." jane nearly mumbled, "by no means am i sticking around here for long, but, it's bearable."gary nodded, "understandable." he ran his fingers through his dark brown, frizzy hair that just nearly reached his shoulders. jane couldn't help but think of kurt when she watched gary brush his long hair out of his face. she remembers how kurt would have to constantly tuck it behind his ears to keep it out of his face. even then, strands would find their way right in front of his eyes.
jane brushed the thought of kurt away. she told herself she needed to stop focusing on him or her "off-putting obsession", as she put it, with kurt would only get worse.
"well, what are you doing after school?" gary asked, ever so casually. jane raised her eyebrows, "oh, uh, i guess just go home. school is too much social interaction for the day." she said, followed by a small laugh, "i'm tired, even though i haven't done shit."
"too tired to hangout after school with me?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow. jane wanted to say yes, that she was too tired to spend time with him. that she rather do almost anything else than spend her free time with someone she hardly knows.
though jane was used to not taking people's shit and was generally outspoken, she found herself almost becoming a people pleaser as of recent. she had fought practically her whole life, she never thought she would stop that and let her guard down."it'll be super laid back. we'll just chill and hang out. what do you say?" he continued with a small smile. she blinked at him, unsure of whether she should be honest or not. she had already taken awhile to respond and didn't want to keep wasting time.
"sure." she blurted out, though all she wanted to do was curl up in her bed. gary smiled widely, "sweet. just find me after your 7th, and we'll get out of here."
jane faked a smile and nodded, "sounds good."
when it did not sound good in the slightest.gary patted the table before standing up, "i'm gonna go get lunch. wanna come?"
