August dragged on for what felt like forever. jane avoided kurt as much as she could at school, though he would continuously sit by her in their sixth period, even after their screaming match.jane could agree that august was not her month. she prayed to any powerful, god-like forces that the cool winds of september would help her keep a peaceful mindset. and, so far, september had been kind to her, besides the pain that shot through her when she saw kurt. that was far too often.
the lunch bell had only just rung. jane packed up her things as students left the classroom, rushing to lunch.
she slung her backpack over her shoulder and walked out of class once the stampede of students passed by. as soon as she stepped foot out, she was met with the sight of dave, the reputable drummer that jane somewhat knew, also stepping out of his classroom, which was just right across from her class.
the two caught each other's eyes. they shared an awkward smile before nearly walking side by side. jane tried to speed up and get away, but dave quickly matched her speed.
"hey, jane." he greeted. jane side eyed him, "hey, dave."
dave didn't beat around the bush, "we had band practice yesterday. kurt is writing a song." jane hid the excitement that bubbled up in her chest. she truly loved hearing about kurt and the band.
"really?" jane questioned, sounding disinterested. dave nodded, "yeah, it's still a work in progress. but, it's good." jane nodded with a hummed at dave's words.
"he was talking about you." dave eventually said. jane subconsciously perked up, looking over at dave.
"what about me?" she asked.
"he was saying how he really wants you to hear the song. we're performing it on friday at this party, he wants you to come." dave dropped this bombshell as if it was the most casual thing in the world.
jane tried to stay strong and not let herself get too happy, "well, if kurt wants me there, he should tell me himself."
dave scoffed, "yeah, right. kurt's a total pussy, jane. you think he's gonna ask you to see him at a gig after all of," he stopped, thinking of how he'd approach the topic, "you know."
jane awkwardly coughed. she looked down at her feet, "i'll think about it." she said. dave nodded, "cool."
and with that, dave walked off into the cafeteria. jane followed behind him, not saying a word. the two split off, dave going to sit by kurt and jane going to sit by gary.
jane found gary in the crowded lunch room in no time. she quickly took a seat in front of him, watching his face light up as he noticed her.
"hey." he greeted with a smile, she returned the smile. "hey yourself." she replied.
"anything crazy or earth-shattering happen so far?" gary asked.
jane wanted to talk about how she walked into first period and noticed how kurt's eyes looked her up and down, how she noticed his small glances towards her way. she knew gary didn't care to hear about any of that, though.
