Jane was noticeably more giddy these last few days, and everyone knew why. mostly because it was all she talked about.

this upcoming thursday was halloween, which was only two days away, and jane could not and would not shut up about it. halloween had always been jane's favorite holiday and she made every halloween special. whether it was going out door-to-door or just watching a movie, every halloween was perfect to her.

though, she realized that being eighteen did not necessarily allow her to go trick-or-treating. she had outgrown the activity years ago, but, it didn't fail to make her feel like her options were limited.

she thought of simply watching some horror movies and having kurt over, but, she knew it would end with krist being a weirdo about it all. plus, she had spent her last few halloweens watching movies, she wanted excitement this year.

"i don't know what i'm gonna do!" jane dramatically said, her hand lightly hitting the lunch table. she looked over at dave and then kurt.

"what are you doing for halloween?" she asked kurt, "we gotta adjust our plans to fit one another."

kurt gave a nervous look towards dave before looking back at jane. he was clearly hesitating. jane looked back at dave then at kurt again, "what?" she finally said when the silence grew unbearable.

"we just got confirmed for a gig on halloween." kurt spoke, "sorry."

jane felt more upset about it than she should. she knew it was dramatic to care so much, especially when kurt was missing out on halloween for a good reason.

she quickly found an easy compromise to this, though.
"well," she said, "i can just come to the gig. and, i'll come see you guys, be 'fecal matter's biggest fan! as always!" she threw on a fake sense of excitement just for kurt's happiness. yet, she never saw a flicker of joy appear on his face, or on dave's face for that matter.

she looked between the two again, "that's okay, right?" she asked, nervously, "this silence is really off-putting." she chuckled, trying to ease up tensions.

"krist doesn't want you to go." dave blurted out.

jane didn't fully understand what she heard at first. she didn't feel betrayed or hurt, just simply confused.

"what?" is all she said after a moment of silence. kurt sighed lowly, "you didn't have to say it like that, man."

"what other way is there to say it?" dave questioned. jane hardly paid any attention to them, she was lost in her own thoughts. what did he mean that krist didn't want her to go? krist was family, and was always looking out for jane. sure, they didn't necessarily grow up super close, but, that didn't mean krist had simply stopped caring for jane.

"why doesn't krist want me there?" jane finally asked, dave and kurt exchanged a glance.

"krist thinks you're total distraction to kurt, and says that kurt needs to make the band his number one priority, or some shit." dave blandly said.
