How long has it been since I have been able to have a chance to be myself without being judged on the court? Quite some time then. At least I can finally get out and play the one sport I love the most, basketball. I feel anew, no more chains holding me back, finally out of my comfort zone. "Up for another game at Lunch, Yuzuriha?" one of the grade six boys asked.
"You bet I am!" I yelled back. That game felt great, I was finally welcomed on the court. Usually, no one would ask me to play another game of basketball, or soccer, seems today is just my lucky day. If only it could remain like this forever.
The Math class was just as boring as usual, Etiquette was torture. No other words, this why I get leg cramps. Why do we even have that subject at all? I swear there's something wrong here in Osaka. Seriously, HomeEc and Etiquette is for the highschoolers, not us. Those subjects don't even let me breathe fresh air unlike the P.E.
In a place filled with new places, you are either stuck in a school, busy city, or hospital. They each have their similarities, but also the differences. Schools contain children, a busy city pays little attention, and hospitals are nosy and what some people call 'incompetent when setting themselves in a position that will take time to achieve the later goal.'
Rei was bound to a place she has zero knowledge, Karin does ted to go to the hospital a lot because of sport injuries, Taro never going in but knowing nearly everything about the hospital. Then there's our dear Akabane Rei, standing in the corner of the party. Her food was bland, unenjoyable lunch. Being stuck in this place made it uneasy for her, the room was stuffy, barely any circulation for fresh air.
She glanced at the window several times while she was eating, just wishing to see her friends again. Just sitting there doing nothing but staring out into the distance and longing to be out of the hospital. Whenever Rei would start questioning reality or become bored as hell, she would here this spine-chilling sound tape peeling off the wall, giving herself fear and doubt. Of course, whenever she would get the chance to look back, it was all for nothing.
Simple things have simply been explained to a further level of understanding and comprehension, while worldly mysteries remain unsolved throughout the next decades. It was just the same with the story and belief of the very peculiar Sukima Onna. Seen and heard across Japan, but no scientific explanation. Only metaphors left of what used to be a full piece of history and reality. Well not everything can be simply taken in through a deep breath of fresh air now.
By the time she had finished eating lunch, she slowly started to become aware of the growing silence haunting her from behind. Her head constantly looked back to check behind, only seeing the tape perfectly left in the exact same place as it was before, not noticing the slight difference from before. She could feel it, her gut, her mind kept telling her, over and over again, something terrible is about to happen, sooner or later. The feeling was not something that could be shrugged off the shoulder and covered up with the famous three words: This. Is. Fine.
No matter how much she looked hindmost it was still all for nothing. Rei's growing anticipation kept sprouting, clawing it's way out of her to grab her hand and pull the tape away to observe the universe beyond the neutral plain.
