You are an intern at a record label and one day you
hope to own your own label. You love music but always wanted to stay on the business side of things. Being famous just wasn't something you wanted and you liked your privacy. You applied for an internship at YRN Records and you've been working there for about a week and it's been hectic. The boss is very demanding and he's a perfectionist. He notices even the smallest mistakes and he likes everything in place. The boss used to be an artist himself until he brought himself to early retirement at 27 and began his own label. He has many artist including his two former group members. You've been listening to his music since middle school, now you are 19 and a sophomore in college. You wanted to get your foot in the door so you applied to different labels and finally was hired at this one."Did you get those files printed, labeled and ordered like I asked?" He asked while walking into his office.
"Yes. Just like you asked." You responded while handing over the files to him. He took them and looked through them to make sure everything was okay.
"No, this ain't what I asked for. They need to be in alphabetical order not numerical." He threw them in the trash. "Do them again." He said as he leaned on the table putting both hands on them and looking you in the face.
"I could've sworn you said alphabetical." You said as you started to get nervous and scramble.
"I'm pretty sure I didn't, check your notes." He responded. You checked your clipboard and checked the notes and you noticed that it did say numerical instead of alphabetical. You looked at him with a look of shame.
"I'm sorry." You said.
"Don't be sorry, be careful. This isn't the first fuck up from you. If you not gon take this job serious, I can give it to someone else. Next time pay attention to what I say. You're dismissed." He told you. You walked out of his office and closed the door behind you and then you could feel tears starting to form, you held them back until you went to the restroom. Once you got there, you let them go, looking in the mirror and wiping your tears. You then heard someone come in the door and you tried to clear your face up as soon as you could. One of his artists Niykee walked into the restroom and instantly noticed your tears.
"What's wrong?" She walked up to you and asked.
You sniffled and said, "Nothing, it's fine."
"That's not an it's fine cry. I know all about those." She responded.
"I'm grateful for this opportunity and I want it so bad but it seems like I keep messing up and the boss hurt my feelings." The tears started to come back as you told her your side of the story no matter how much you tried to hold them in. She walked to the stall and grabbed some tissue and handed it to you.
"It's okay boo, he's made me cry a many of times as well. It's okay because he knows you can do better and he's trying to bring out the best from you." She told you.
"There are times where I want to quit but I have dreams for my future and this is a great opportunity that I don't want to lose but I just hate feeling like I can't do anything right." You replied.
"Yeah, I get it. But Im telling you, he sees your potential and he's just trying to get you ready for this world. Cause in this industry, they won't be nice either." She added.
"You're absolutely right. Thank you for this advice. I needed it cause I was truly on the verge of walking out and not coming back." You told her.
"Don't mention it, love. Also, he's really not a mean person, he just likes being in control. Well.. it's time for my studio session. Hang in there girl." She said as she gave you a hug and then walked out.
