Later that day in the dragon hangar, Hiccup feeds the dragons and looks after them. He looks around to make sure that nothing is able to get through the hangar and into the village.
"Buddy, where are ya? Time to go," Hiccup raises his voice so Toothless could hear.
Toothless appears and Hiccup mounts as the dragon takes off almost immediately, the two friends able to sense each other's moves. Hiccup has learned to channel a little energy where the two can do everything without doing anything.
They soar high into the sky, spinning and turning this way and that way and upside down as barrel rolls.
"Alright buddy, you know what they say. Practice makes perfect," as he unhooks his safety line while putting Toothless' tail in a locked position so he can glide alongside Hiccup.
He pats Toothless' neck as he sits upright, locking his forearms into his sides. He closes his eyes and focuses on his breathing, getting even more acclimated to the air. He opens his eyes and slides off the side and free falls.
The two fall, gradually gaining speed. They spin around in circles, their minds connected. Simultaneously they open wings, each of them letting out a roar of excitement and adrenaline.
They glide through the air, dodging pillars of rocks and falling boulders. Hiccup's sense becomes sharper when he's connected to Toothless and his reflexes are unbeatable.
A scream is heard by Toothless, so he dips under Hiccup and takes off to Berk. The two get there blindingly fast, eating up ground as Toothless uses Hiccup's reserve power to hit an unmeasurable speed.
Smoke is spotted in the distance and fire can be seen the closer Berk comes into view. The water defenses were made to put out single dragon fires, not an entire building. Fire lines, people passing buckets of water to and from a water source and fire, where all around Berk while those in the academy carry large metal basins to douse out fires as best they could.
"Hiccup!" Snotlout yells out. "There you are. No one know how this started, only that it spread to quick to stop."
"People say they spotted black figures about during the night," Fishlegs comes up.
"Others saw the same black sand you and I saw the other morning, babe," Astrid comes up behind.
"Let's take care of this fire first," Hiccup says as he runs to get water.
He lets loose a dragon call, that of Scauldrens, to summon support. Minutes later a loud roar is heard, that of many Scauldrens, and a groups is seen flying above and creating a mist of water to put the fires out. Then an explosion sent the gang flying.
Hiccup pulls himself up, looking around to see the rest of the gang helping each other up. Astrid rushes to his side and helps her husband to his feet.
"We have to protect the people!" Hiccup's chiefly instincts kicking in.
They grab their weapons and head in different directions and help others and out our fire when needed. That's when it all begins.
Creatures fly through the air, creating rows of fire and wreaking havoc among the village. Buildings go up and flames as tongues of fire lick at the wood. The ground is scorched where the creatures walk.
The twins use their whirlwind technique to defend themselves as Snotlout and Fishlegs barrel their way through the black lizard-like creatures as Hiccup teams with Astrid, their swords creating a beautiful silver blur as they spin and flip and swing their swords.
The lizard-like creatures retreat after a while and the flames automatically recede. The gang gathers up in the center of Berk and asses the village.
"Guys, looks at what I found," Astrid joins the group.
She opens her hand to reveal black powder.
"That looks like the stuff from the other night.." Hiccup says as he meets his wife's eyes. "That looks like black sand."
