journey
You grabbed your backpack before following as Pepper left the car and headed toward the trunk, pulling out the black suitcase you'd packed the night before. "Do as you're told and stay safe. I don't want reports of any trouble or any superhero activity. And tell that to Peter, too." She extended the handle and handed it to you before pulling you into a motherly hug. "Just, have fun, okay?"
"I will."
"And call me when you get there." She pushed you away but maintained a stable grip on your shoulders to look you in the eye.
"I will." You smiled at her, causing her to sigh and pull you into another hug.
"Please, stay safe."
"Yes, you already said that." She let go of you completely, waving at you as you began to walk away. "Bye. I'll see you in a week."
"Bye! And don't forget, call me-"
"Call you when I get there. Got it!"
Pepper leaned against the car, her eyes trained on you until you were out of sight. "Y/N! Y/N!" You turned toward the voice, seeing Mr. Harrington waving you over. He was standing next to a few benches that held the students that had already arrived, including Ned and MJ, and Mr. Dell. "Okay, now we're just waiting for Zach, Taylor, Betty, and Peter."
At the sound of your name, MJ's gaze lifted from her book, a small smile appearing on her face as she closed it. "Hey," she greeted you as she unzipped her backpack to place the book back inside, finding that it was the only luggage she'd brought. I'll never know how she can be so unsentimental. "You excited?"
"To spend a week having fun with my best friends? Yeah, I'm excited." You took the seat next to her, holding your suitcase between your knees.
"I'm pretty excited for Paris, to be honest."
"Is there some dark secret about Paris I don't know about or have you just been hiding the fact that on the inside, you're extremely romantic?" You leaned back in your seat, tilting your head toward her with an amused smile.
"Actually, I really like how beautiful and romantic Paris is. If I ever loved anyone, I'd want them to take me on a date to the Eiffel Tower, we'll both be wearing berets, maybe sharing a croissant or something." She laughed, a laugh that blessed your ears and your ears only. "And maybe I read somewhere that the Eiffel Tower is secretly a mind control antenna to create an army of the insane. But it's obviously completely unrelated."
You smiled at her. There was no way to describe her other than unique. And good unique, not 'I don't want to call you weird' unique. She had an interesting view of the world, a view that you enjoyed trying to understand. You found yourself even picking up on a few of her habits and opinions, which couldn't be hard seeing as her habits and opinions of Earth were some of the few you'd ever encountered.
"What about you? What place are you looking forward to?" she queried.
You hadn't really thought about the places you were going to; your focus was more on relaxing and spending some quality time with your friends. You weren't very knowledgeable on many places on Earth, aside from the odd dark fact MJ threw at you every now and then, so in hindsight, you probably should've done some research. After all, it would help a lot if you were going to stay on Earth for much longer.
"I don't know. I haven't really thought about it. I suppose I'm more looking forward to the time I get to spend with you." You gave her a sarcastic smile, fluttering your eyelashes for added effect, causing her to shove you right where Peter had bruised your arm.
