"We won't be silenced!" Rine exclaimed, pounding her fist on the table. She and the other leaders of the rebellion were gathered in a secret meeting, strategizing on how to continue their fight for clone rights.
As the rebellion gains momentum, the government becomes more desperate to maintain control. They began to crack down on the rebellion, using their resources to suppress and silence the voices advocating for clone rights.
"They're arresting our unions left and right," one of the leaders said. "How are we supposed to keep going?"
"We keep going," Rine said determinedly. "We won't let them break us. We'll find ways to resist, to keep our voices heard."
Despite the constant threats and harassment they faced, Rine and the rebellion remained determined. Many of their members were arrested and imprisoned, but the government's attempts to suppress their voices only strengthened Rine's resolve. She never gave up hope, even when the situation grew hopeless.
Ava was also at this meeting, though she had been absent from the protests since early morning. Her presence in New Avalon made things very tense, and Rine wanted her nearby in case they needed her. After all, she knew what it felt like to be locked away inside your own mind, unable to do anything.
But while Rine was concerned about Ava's mental health, she wasn't about to put her own needs ahead of hers. No matter what she might think of Ava, the woman was still family. And family came first.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang. Rine looked up as the window next to her shattered into pieces.
"What was that? Who was shooting?" someone yelled.
"I heard an explosion!" another person shouted.
Someone rushed towards the entrance to leave, but several people grabbed him.
"Wait! We need you here!" someone cried.
Ava jumped out of her seat and approached Rine. "Is everything okay?" she asked quietly.
"Yeah..." Rine replied hesitantly. "It sounded like someone just shot at something out in front."
Ava nodded. "That sounds pretty normal to me. I've noticed that happens every now and again." She turned to Rine. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get involved, if it bothers you."
Rine shook her head. "It doesn't bother me."
Ava looked unconvinced, but said nothing else. Instead, she headed towards the exit as more gunshots rang out.
Rine stood up and hurried after her, ignoring the stares she received. This was the second time the rebels had been ambushed outside New Avalon. The first time, however, the attackers hadn't killed anyone, they'd simply knocked out the guards with guns before escaping. And this time, the rebels had taken prisoners.
The group arrived outside and saw several people lying unconscious and injured around the area. Several of them appeared to be dead; the smell of blood hung thick in the air. More rebels stood around, pointing their weapons at the group.
Rine's eyes went wide as she realized what was happening. A rebel soldier ran towards them, his face contorted in panic.
"Don't move!" he yelled, his voice laced with fear.
Ava stepped forward in defense. "Why shouldn't we?" she demanded angrily.
"Please, listen to me!" the rebel pleaded. "Something's happened to our headquarters! The government is sending agents to arrest you!"
"Why should we believe you?!" Rine snapped.
The rebel ignored Rine and kept talking urgently to Ava. "There's already been a couple attacks. You may have heard, but I didn't want to talk until everyone had heard. One attack took place a week ago, the government was planning to arrest you and hold you for questioning. But then the next day a bunch of rebels stormed a building, and they attacked us as well! There aren't many survivors! The whole building was destroyed!"
