"I thought you were smarter," Hootsman said. "Why send your best fighter into battle?"
Zargothrax looked at him and smiled devilishly. "If you had an untested weapon of mass destruction in your hands, wouldn't you be curious what it could do?"
I frowned and burst into their conversation. "Angus is not a weapon."
I noticed a twinkle of emotion flashing in Angus's eyes. A wave of hope swept through me. He was not sure, what was right. He could have opposed Zargothrax.
Suddenly, the evil wizard turned to him and began to say something quietly. I couldn't hear what, but I saw Angus nod, say something quietly, and then Zargothrax touched him on the arm protector. A small purple flash appeared, they exchanged a few more words, and suddenly Angus turned around and ran away.
"Run after him," Hootsman whispered to me. "I'll take care of Zargothrax."
I nodded and ran. I swept past the dark wizard in a flash and felt a wave of heat fly past me. I turned around. Hootsman blocked Zargothrax's spell, with which he tried to get me.
I rushed after the person I still considered my friend. He had a big lead in front of me and ran further into the depths of the fortress.
Suddenly, however, he stopped and turned to face me. I stopped as well. What did he plan?
"The ice won't last long, Hootsman should be careful," he said, shoving the Astral Hammer into the straps on his back, sliding one hand under the eye patch and rubbing his eye.
I frowned. What was this supposed to mean?
"You know what's down there, don't you?" he said suddenly.
"So your plans were exactly as we thought," I growled.
But he shook his head.
"My father... He knew something like this could happen," Angus said suddenly.
I opened my mouth. What was he talking about?
"He never really believed in me, so he was happy to send me to defend the kingdom into space and not to worry about the land of Fife. He didn't like my magical energy. He didn't like my interest in magic. I've never been as much to him as my younger brother," he said quietly.
"Angus... That's not true," I shook my head.
"It's true," he said with tears in his eyes. "In case I turned to the dark side, he created an insurance policy. If I pass through a certain part of this fortress and it feels evil from me..."
I opened my mouth. I would never have believed that a king would have such a thing created.
"But Angus... We are not in our reality," I said quietly.
"The first time I was here, before the events of Cowdenbeath and Schiehallion when you brought me here, I checked a few things behind your back," he said. "One of them was defence systems. They are the same as they were in our reality."
"You don't have to do it," I said quietly. "Zargothrax brainwashed you."
"No," Angus shook his head. "Zargothrax opened my eyes and showed me that there was no point in fighting for the kingdom here when ours fell..."
Before I could say anything, Angus took a step back. At that moment, a blast wave flew through the whole place with a blinding flash, and the whole fortress began to collapse directly on us...
