Chapter Twenty-Three
-Lilah-
They were everywhere. First they were hounding the shop, looking for possibly a glimpse of Louis. After we escaped through the back door, and they realized that quicker than I would have, they followed us to every possible store we entered. I was nowhere used to the flashes and screams and basically everything they offered. It frightened me terribly. The worst part was I couldn’t just escape it like I so desperately wanted to.
If I did that, it would be better for them and get worse for me. They would get their little article titled ‘Louis’s New Boo Not Ready to be on the News’ and he’d eventually lose interest. I couldn’t show any emotion I had towards the whole situation. It’d make me seem weak and fragile compared to Louis. I’d be an easy target.
“You okay babe?” Louis asked from across the table in a little café we found along the way. I looked up to meet his grayish blue eyes that had specks of care in them as they found my emerald dazed looking eyes. I nodded and looked over at them who were still taking pictures of us from the huge windows. Their cameras and bodies were pressed against the glass, trying to get the best shot possible. It was quite… creepy.
“I know when you’re lying, Li. I’ve known you for two years. I know every nook and cranny you’ve got. What’s wrong? Talk to me, Boo.” he seemed genuinely worried about me. It cheered me up a little bit. I did want to tell him my thoughts at this current moment but just not here. Not right now. I needed to forget about the struggles around me and focus on what was going on right now.
“I'm fine. Just thinking is all.” It was a lame excuse. Anyone with ears could tell that I was lying. Well no, I was thinking, just not that I'm fine. It was clearly written on my face. He seemed hurt and disappointed that I wouldn’t tell him what was wrong with me. What is wrong with me?
“You’re not enjoying yourself are you? You don’t want to give us a shot?” his voice was cracking and it was clear that in mere seconds, he will start breaking down in tears. I had to make sure that didn’t happen. Especially not when those annoying people were around. That’d make me seem like an even worse person than I must seem like now.
“You and I both know that’s not true. I'm having such a good time just being normal with you. Nothing too fancy and nothing too boring, just the way I like it. It’s just…” I turn towards the people still standing in the windows. Why won’t they leave?! Can’t they just get their good pictures and scram! Looks like my New York routes are standing out again.
“I’ll tell them to get the fuck away.” He stands up, anger radiating off his body. I could tell what his next move was, and it wasn’t going to be good either. I grabbed his hand with my right and grabbed his cheek with my left. I made him look into my green eyes.
“Its fine, Boo. I'm just not used to all of this that’s all. If they were bothering me that much I’d ask to leave. I’ll get over it, babe, just spend time with me.” I wasn’t even sure if I was convincing myself, let alone him. I stroked his soft cheek in attempt to calm him down. His face softened and I instantly felt a lot better. He was calm as was I.
“You’re right. I'm kinda done with sitting on my ass. Wanna get some more stuff?” he asks with a smile on his face, luring me into doing what he wanted to do. I couldn’t help but laugh at the guy’s enthusiasm. He was utterly adorable yet scary at how much it changed in less than five seconds.
“Only you would beg me to go shopping,” I muttered so he wouldn’t hear it. It just happened that he didn’t. “I thought you’d never ask.” We throw out our trash and intertwine our hands as we exit the little café.
