Everything that's italicized is either a memory or thought. Throughout the story the main character has flashbacks of the life she led before the past was altered by time travel creating a new timeline. It will make more sense as the story goes on.

"y/n get up" he yelled.

You shot up in bed scanning the room with tired eyes for the source of the voice that so rudely interrupted your sleep. You felt a myriad of emotions: confusion, followed by fear, finally settling on anger once your blurry eyes focused on your father's face.

"Jesus Crist dad, when did you even get home? And you didn't even think to knock you scared me to death!" You huffed in annoyance.

He sighed and said, "I don't have time for your shit right now y/n. Get up, get dressed, and pack your suitcase."

You stared at him utterly perplexed. You had no clue why he'd want you pack a suitcase.

'We weren't planning a trip and I haven't even seen the man in a month because he's been busy traveling on 'business' whatever the hell that means'

Your gaze shifted to the open curtains in the corner of my room, realizing that the sun wasn't even up yet. 'What time even is it?' You rolled your achy muscles over to take a peek at the alarm clock: 5:15 AM.

'Five?! Five in the morning what the hell? He's got to be joking right now!'  You rolled back over opening your mouth to protest whatever the hell this situation was, but his piercing gaze silenced you.

"I don't have time to explain right now, we need to leave in an hour. I expect you to be downstairs ready to leave by then" he said sternly.

"I have school in two hours da-" you started meekly but he immediately cut you off "you're not going for the next week now hurry up." you nodded still utterly confused and fatigued.

He made his way through your room towards the door dogging the piles of junk and clothes you had littering your floor. You winced when he tripped over your sweater, "how many damn times have I told you to keep this bedroom clean it's a damn death trap."

You looked down embarrassed. You knew your room was a mess, but never intended for him to see it! 'I mean he hasn't even been here the last month and now he's worried about the state of my room?! He's not concerned at all with how I've been fairing on my own while he's been out and about! '

He turned to face you and added "And pack something nice I don't need you looking like a slob and embarrassing me" with that he was gone out the door leaving you with your thoughts.

Once he left, you laid back down and let the tears that had been threatening to fall flow freely over your cheeks. 'I can't believe my father is treating me this way. I should be used to it by now'. This had been your normal since he started his company four years ago. 'That company has destroyed both of our lives! My dad is always traveling, and when he is home, he's on the phone, and when he's not on the phone he wants to be left alone because he's 'stressed'.

You missed your father and the close relationship you used to have. You didn't even recognize the man that he is now. He used to be so caring and attentive and now it's like your very existence is bothersome. You knew he was working very hard these last couple years to prove himself and you were truly proud of all he accomplished.

He hasn't mentioned anything, but You can tell he was struggling. He was more on edge than usual, and he'd been struggling financially recently, having to make some cutbacks around the house. 'He's been acting like an ass, but maybe I should just stop being selfish and be patient with him since he's going through a lot. I'll have to do my classes online or at least get my work from my professors for the next week. Honestly, I doubt I'll even be gone for the full week.'
