Sohee POV
"I'm afraid skedaddling on out of here just isn't going to work, Miss Kang. You have a mildly bruised ribcage and a hairline fracture in your left wrist. Clearly your body pumped mass amounts of serotonin for it to have gone unnoticed without pain for so long. We've got it in a splint but you need to restrict strenuous activity for three weeks at least. Same goes for your ribs. It'll cause issues with breathing if you don't stay careful," the doctor said.
I sighed, bummed out, "Really? I thought I defended myself a lot better than that."
They chuckled, "You should see the other guy. You gave him hell."
I softly chuckled, "I guess I did."
"Alright Miss Kang, I'm going to let you rest. You've had some pretty anxious visitors so I'll send them in, in small groups," the doctor said.
I thanked them, watching as they walked out and my mother came rushing in. Oh boy, here we go.
My mom came up beside me, sitting close by me, gently holding my good hand. She gently caressed my hair, fussing over me.
"I made you some food and side dishes in case this boring hospital food is making you sick. I also brought some oils and some activities and—"
"Mom," I cut her off, gently holding her hand. "I'm okay. Really. This is way too much. I'm just glad you're here. It feels like it's been forever since I've seen you."
She smiled softly, pecking the side of my head.
"I'm always here my darling girl. You just don't come to see me hmm? Too busy partying and not studying," she scolded, gingerly smacking my good arm.
Gotta love mothers.
Her gaze was soft, "How are you feeling? How long will it take for your ribs and wrist to heal?"
"About a month, hopefully less. I feel fine though," I shrugged.
She sighed, "You got that annoying habit from your father no doubt. I won't hear any of it Kang Sohee. If you don't rest, I will drag you home to stay with me."
"Yeah yeah, I got it mom. I'll rest. Knowing Taehyung and my friends, they'd never let me lift a finger for the next month," I grimaced.
"Those friends of yours, especially that Kim Taehyung, they seem to care a great deal about you. None of them have left here since you arrived. It's the middle of the night, and they're still here. Awake and waiting for you. I'm glad to see that you've got such honest and loving friends," she commented.
I smiled to myself, "I am quite fortunate for them. I would not be the woman I am if not for them."
"Especially that Kim Taehyung hmm?" She inquired, making me choke a little. "Come now, you didn't think I'd notice Prince Charming bulldozing through cops just to get to you first? Even just now in the hallway, he was trying to buy me snacks and talk politely. Although it was so polite I'm pretty sure he resurrected a dead dialect. You can't fool your mother Miss Sohee."
I sighed, "Jeez mom, it's no big deal."
She scoffed, "Like hell it isn't. I remember how you used to go around more casually. I remember you saying that you were only going to do that for the rest of your life. And like a good mother I supported your decision as long as you were mature and responsible. Screw the patriarchy take back your power girl. But this boy is so pure and innocent. It's not like you to be patient so I'm shocked he's the one that wrangled you in."
"Wow mom, thanks," I rolled my eyes. "You're not wrong though. He's just special. My adventure buddy. My best friend, after Haru of course because she could be listening through any wall. He's unique and pure hearted and curious about the world. He uh...grew up sheltered so he hasn't gotten to experience much. Being able to see him watch the world with wonder allowed me to slow down a little and granted me some vulnerability."
