5 Years Later
"Trust me, ma'am. This is an anniversary gift worth giving," the artist I commissioned said enthusiastically.
The two of us were quietly secluded in a quartered off section of the gallery so I could have the gift I prepared for Taehyung revealed.
The artist ripped off the cloth sheet that veiled the painting, unearthing a picturesque smear oil painting of Taehyung and I kissing on the beachside while a bonfire burned brightly on the back, and sun was just about to dip behind the horizon line. It was like I was twenty-one again, embracing the feeling of him holding me. Not that every day didn't feel like a magical experience of adventure and love. But this memory was permanently ingrained in my brain.
Today was our anniversary. Not marriage or even dating. But the anniversary of the day Taehyung left the painting and started his journey of humanity. That day felt the most significant to us because it was the day that our everlasting adventure would begin. Nothing that followed would've ever happened had that day not happened, so we always celebrated it over the day we started dating. Also because that in and of itself wasn't all that clear. There wasn't really an official date but more of a gradual build up.
"Miss Kang? Your boyfriend is here!" One of the gallery workers called out to me.
I glanced at my watch, "Oh is my shift already over?"
"You have been curating all day, Miss. I don't know how you don't get incredibly tired," the worker chuckled.
"Ah, but when you love the job you do, everyday is rejuvenating," I explained.
"That's our curator for you," they nodded while giving the 'fighting' gesture.
"But I suppose I shouldn't keep him waiting," I hummed. I turned back to the artist, "Min Haru should be here any moment to take this back to my place. Would you be able to go with her and prop it up in my house? I'll pay you extra."
The artist smiled, "Of course! It's not trouble at all. You already gave such a generous commission so it's no trouble at all."
"Thank you so much! You're genuinely so amazing for doing this for me. I really appreciate it!" I called as I ran out to greet Taehyung.
My heels clacked against the gallery's marble floor as I ran to where he was at the front of the gallery, chatting with the ticket receiver and some of the other gallery associates.
He stood tall and confident as he talked, nonchalantly leaning against a wall with his arms attractively crossed. He held himself a lot better as he matured with age, settling perfectly into the human life he was meant to have. He had an overcoat on with a brown scarf and button down shirt with form fitting slacks and loafers to match. And to top the look off, he had a cool pair of glasses on to totally bring together the aura. I marveled at him for a moment, still shocked that he didn't choose to pursue the model story that I had crafted for him.
Nope. Though he was dressed like a supermodel, his job was quite the opposite. He finished school with me and opened an art studio with Jungkook, who was also amazingly good at art, where they held lessons for little kids. In fact, all the boys were finally off doing their own thing that aligned with their interests. They finally felt like they were settling into this world. Jin was off on a cooking tour with his mentor. Jimin similarly was off on a tour with his fashion design and model mentor. Yoongi and Namjoon had picked up music as a passion and were learning the ins and outs of producing so they could become producers. And Hoseok had started a dance studio after picking it up with ease. We hadn't seen them in a while, but it was great to know that they were thriving in their own ways.
