They were able to resuscitate Devon 3 times the nurse was able to keep updating me on the status of my brother.
I see Summer and Duke walk in
"Where is he Peyton" Summer says in panic you can clearly tell she's been crying her eyes are puffy.
"He's in the ICU" I say
"Where's momma? How did you get here ? What happened ? Who did it-" she says before I cut her off
"I rather not get bombarded with questions right now Summer" I say
"I've tried calling mom a thousand times she's yet to pick up her phone I left a thousand messages I guess she's busy at work" I say
"I'm sorry Peyton" she says bringing me in for a tight hug

Hours go by and updates become less and less until a doctor walks into the waiting room with a gloomy face.
"The good news is he was able to pass through the surgery completely fine but it's now up to Devon to wake up on his own but we never typically know how long that takes it could be days,weeks, or months" he says to us
I see Summer trying to hold back her tears while Duke holds her
"He's a very strong I have no doubt that he'll be back soon" the doctor says
"If you want to see him he's in room 406" he says to us
"Are you gonna go" I say asking looking at summer who's completely torn apart right now
"Not yet just give me a few minutes I'll be up there" she says

Walking in the room seeing Devon with all these machines hooked up to his body makes me want to break down all again but I hold it back
I pull a chair to sit beside him
"Hey Devon, it's me Peyton" I say hoping to get a response
"I always saw people in movies do this and always thought it was corny but being in this position now I understand" I say
"I just want to hear your voice again or you do something stupid and maybe I just wake up and this is all a dream" I say feeling the sadness spread through my body again
"Devon please please please just fight for me we need you to be okay and I don't know what I would do without my brother" I say feeling the tears coming down
"Please Devon your like my other half your like my protector from Mom, the people at school, and the people on the streets" I say taking his hand to hold but not feeling any type of response back
"God I know that I don't talk to you a lot I know that I've had my struggling belief but please please bring my brother back" I say pleading with tears in my eyes looking at the sky

Hours gone by now it's night time Summer and Duke are on the couch knocked out. I've been here in the same position with hopes of him waking up or give me a sign but he hasn't.
I hear the door open slowly seeing it's my mother
"Where have you been" I ask her angrily
"Everyones been calling you and texting you but you wanna choose to show up on your time" I say
"Don't you dare speak to me like that before you get hit" she says
Guessing the commotion wakes Summer up and she sees mother
"You decided to finally come after everyone has been blowing up you phone about your son telling you he's in the hospital" Summer says looking at her
"I don't know why'd you'd called like I'd ever answer the phone to a whore that got pregnant by a thug" she says to her
"Can we not do this now your son is literally on life support fighting for his life" I say to her
"He'll be fine" she says
"That's all you have to say" I say to her in disgust
"I can't wait for the day that me and Devon are old enough to leave you alone in your miserable life-
Before I finish I'm struck with a slap
I Yelp in pain feeling the stinging on the side of my face
"Get behind me now I've allowed you to disrespect me,Summer, Devon, my unborn child and haven't said a word because I held back because you are Summers mother" Duke says getting in front of me
"You are a disgusting mother to your kids and you are not even fit to take care of them any time I would try to let Summer to see her siblings you insisted that I would have to pay let her" he says
When he says this I'm in shock and and wave of anger fills inside of me what seems like
"Is this true" Summer asks
My mother doesn't say anything but looks at the floor guiltily
"You've hit me,Peyton, hit Devon causing him to have a black eye, and would ask for money to let me see my siblings" she says angrily
"Can we not do this right now" I say please
Luckily this is cut short when the nurse comes in informing us we have to leave as rules imply that our visiting hours are up

Pleading with Summer not to let me go back to my mothers house for tonight. Summer suggested something even better
"You and Devon graduate in a some months from now right" she asks me
"Yeah Ik June" she says
"Well I was thinking that you and Devon can stay here till you guys go off for college" she says
"Really summer" I say asking her
"Yes really I don't want you guys over there anymore it isn't safe" she says
"You guys can stay in the extra room we have for the baby and the baby can sleep in our room til you guys go which should be around the same time I have it" she says
"Thank you thank you thank you" I say giving her and Duke a big hug
"Okay okay don't squeez the baby out of me" she says laughing
"What about mom" I ask
"If she tries to call the cops we'll just have to go to court about it but I'll doubt she'll do that with so much stuff we have on her" Summers Says
"Get some rest though todays been tiring we can talk about this all tomorrow and go see Devon" she says
