"Love? That sounds stupid! I'm not gonna just waste my life protecting somebody!" Luffy barked at Shanks, "Heh, well, maybe Makino can tell you better than I can" He said while laughing at the boy, while Makino gave him the "I'm gonna kill you for putting this on me" look; as shanks pushed Luffy away, and up to the bar where Makino was.
As Makino sighed and Luffy dragged the bar-stool closer to her, she said "Well, Luffy, Love is something you feel for somebody where you WANT to protect, cherish, and be around, aswell as spend your life with" Making sure to emphasis the want to get it through to Luffy, and to insult Shanks, which he picked up on and gave her a grin.
"Well, now that you said it, it makes more sense...." Luffy replied back, earning a giggle from Makino who knew now she explained it better than that redhead idiot.

Later, during the peak of ASL

"Ace, are you still thinking about the girl?" Sabo said, making Ace turn red and pissed, "S-SHUT UP!" He yelled as Luffy came in, somehow always coming in on the most embarrassing times.
"Hey, Sabo!, Ace!, what are you guys talking about?" He said, but before Ace could grab him, Sabo suddenly said "Our Ace over here fell in love!" he said, making Luffy a little bit confused, "What's the point of love anyway, it'll just make you weaker!" Luffy replied in a teasing way, which made both of the other brothers a little annoyed.
"Luffy, I know you love to joke around but, love is really important in our lives, maybe the most important thing to be honest, so don't joke about it..." Sabo said to him, which made Luffy think for a bit, before saying "Ok, I promise I will always take it seriously!" Luffy replied back, making Sabo grin, and got a scoff from Ace.

Years later, after the defeat of Arlong.

(Finally, Now Nami is free from that bastard, I will never let this happen again, she'll never have to experience that again, I will protect her as long as I live...... Wait...... Isn't this what Makino told me about? Love? Huh, Feels really, really, good) Luffy thought to himself as he looked at a happy Nami, making his heart skip a beat, and make him let out a huge smile, as he went back to go eat meat and party.
As Nami watched him party and act like a child, she couldn't help but blush and let out a smile, thinking to herself (I can't believe an idiot like that would be the one to save me, but then again, only an Idiot would challenge Arlong anyway) she thought while just staring at him; but after a while.....
(Oh god, I think I'm falling for that Idiot..... I can't let this happen, I bet he doesn't even know what love is!) She thought to herself, silencing her emotions, but they would NEVER go away as the time passed, not even.......
Now......
She would never Stop loving him.....
