Two weeks later:
Needless to say, Emily had been on edge since that phone call with Dallas. She was constantly looking over her shoulder and now kept several guns nearby her and Y/n's couch bed. They haven't moved from their hideout here in the FBI headquarters. Emily knew better than anyone that they were safer here than anywhere else.
The rest of the team could sense Emily's obsession with the case. She would spend hours without end reading, studying, and making notes on each detail in Dallas's file. She wanted to know her like the back of her hand if she ever encountered her.
And that overdrive led her here, sitting at her desk for about five hours straight without a single cup of water.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Emily picked her head up and saw JJ standing there at the doorway. She leaned against the frame with her arms crossed. She couldn't believe what Emily was doing right now.
"Did you need something, JJ?" Emily asked and turned her focus back onto the file in her hands. JJ walked over and grabbed the file from Emily's hand. "Hey!"
"Please stop for five minutes," JJ said and threw the file down onto the chair. Emily leaned back in her chair and could feel the muscles in her back stiffen at the sudden movement, indicating she hadn't move in a few hours. JJ's eyebrow raised as she heard the small grunt through Emily's tight lips. "Drink some water, blink for once, and go walk around like a human. You freak me out when you do this."
"I am just glancing, JJ," Emily said and clenched her jaw. "I need to know as much about her as possible."
"I get it. Believe me, I, of the people in the world, get it," JJ said and pointed a finger into her chest. "But I also know it's not good to be this hyper fixated with them. Did you even realize your girlfriend left the building at one point?"
"What?" Emily's asked as her blood ran cold. "Why didn't anyone tell me?"
"I tried, but it was like talking to a stonewall," JJ said and crossed her arms again. She could still see the panic in Emily's eyes. "She's fine, Emily. She went to the store with me and Luke."
Emily could feel herself breathe again as she shut her eyes tightly. Even when she was trying to relax, her body physically couldn't let her.
"Everyone is already taking off for the day. Go spend some time with your girlfriend," JJ said and gestured her head out the door. JJ saw Emily nod her head before she turned and left. "Night, Emily."
"Night, JJ," Emily whispered and buried her face into her hands. She let her body hunch over her desk.
The past was flooding Emily's mind. She remembered being in JJ's shoes with Hotch. She remembered seeing the endless amount of pictures of George Foyet that scattered his apartment's dinning and living room tables. Emily looked around at her desk. It was almost the same. Every waking second, her thoughts were consumed of the possibilities of encountering Dallas. Emily's fists physically hurt thinking about what she'd do to her.
Emily got up and turned off her desk lamp before exiting her office. She headed towards her new makeshift home down the hall. Emily wanted to take a few melatonin gummies and go to sleep to forget everything.
