As Emily requested, Y/n was sat in the middle of a fancy restaurant in downtown DC. The people around her all seemed happy with their company. It only fueled Y/n to crave Emily more. However, her lover wasn't here at the moment. She was probably stuck in traffic somewhere, rushing to get here on time. Emily was very punctual, and there was only a few times that Y/n can recall her ever running late to something.

"Hello, ma'am. My name is Rebecca, and I'll be your server tonight," a young woman said as she walked over to the table Y/n sat at. Her outfit was all black that made her fair skin and blonde hair stick out more. "I've gotten you a water and a basket of bread to start. Are we waiting on anyone else?"

"Yes, she's running a bit late," Y/n said and pursed her lips. "I'll let you know when we're ready."

"Of course," Rebecca said and placed the water and bread basket down. That's when Y/n caught the ring on her finger. Her eyes immediately wanted to examine every detail. It was a silver band with a beautiful marquise diamond that sat right in the center.

"I love your ring," Y/n said mindlessly. Rebecca smiled and held out her hand, showing it to Y/n. Only now did she see the micro diamonds that were surrounding the main one. The ring also had triangular diamonds to create semi-sharp edges to enhance the center. "My God, it's beautiful. Where did you get it?"

"Thank you. My fiancé had it custom made. She hated the idea of going to a magazine and picking a generic one," Rebecca said and wiggled her fingers. "And I had to agree with her. It's far better than anything I ever saw in a dreaded ring shop. I was born in April, so we went a little overboard with my birthstone."

"Your fiancé is a smart person," Y/n said and looked up at Rebecca. "The idea of a custom ring is always much more sentimental. It's gorgeous. Congratulations."

"Thank you, again," Rebecca said and retracted her hand. "Once you're settled, let me know. I'll happily get you started with more drinks and food."

Y/n nodded her head as she sunk back in her seat. She was about to pull out her cellphone when a hand was placed on her shoulder.

"You look lonely, Miss. Care for some company?" a deep voice said right beside her. Y/n was about to give this person a piece of her mind when she recognized that small laughter. Emily leaned over and placed a kiss on her temple.

"I hate you," Y/n said and squinted her eyes.

"I love you too, darling," Emily said and kissed her girlfriend quickly. She pulled back and settled herself into the seat across from Y/n. "I'm sorry I'm a bit late. I got stopped by one of the directors."

"What did he want?" Y/n asked and furrowed her eyebrows. "After the whole Ryan situation, I thought they'd leave you alone."

"Well apparently, they changed their minds and are supposedly being nice. They just wanted to keep me informed about the new section chief that's supposed to start soon," Emily said and reached across the table for Y/n's hand. The young woman intertwined their fingers together. "I'd have to schedule meetings with this new person, get together with the team and do a tour, and fill out paperwork. All the fun portions of my job, which you'll have to do eventually as well."
