Emily sat down directly in front of the picture board in the conference room. She kept glancing around at the different pictures of their newest victims. Her eyes landed on a picture of the wedding ring on one of the victim's hand.

She thought about how her fiancé was flying in from work to receive the terrible news. Emily couldn't help but feel angry for him. She knew better than anyone that this situation was unfair. His fiancé should have been alive to walk down the isle. They should have had a happy life with each other, but instead, it all vanished because of one person's selfishness.

Emily's memories and thoughts started to merge with her own lover. She could feel her ribs start to hurt subconsciously. However, Emily didn't want to shut her eyes because she knew that she'd see those haunting eyes instead. Dallas's presence lingered any chance it got.

Emily sighed as she got her phone out. She opened her messages. She scrolled up a little, re-reading the last text messages from Y/n.

Y/n: I love you. Go save a life.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Emily snapped out of her thoughts and glanced behind her as she stuffed her phone back into her pocket. Tara walked in with two cups of coffee in her hands. "Hey."

"Hey," Tara said softly, walking towards Emily cautiously. "I figured you needed it since you've been very quiet. We've all noticed, and we've been worrying about you since we landed here."

Emily chuckled and pinched the bridge of her nose tightly. She inhaled deeply before reaching over and grabbing the coffee that Tara handed to her. She thanked her quietly as she leaned back into her seat.

"I've just had a lot on my mind," Emily said and took out the small stopper from the coffee cup. Tara hummed as she settled herself on the edge of the conference table. "I feel like I haven't stopped thinking in three days, and that's even with me going to bed."

"Does it have anything to do with a certain lover back in DC?" Tara teased and shimmed her shoulders. Emily chuckled as she shook her head. "Oh, you know we have to tease you about it. It's friendly bullying."

Emily rolled her eyes as she took a sip of her coffee. She hummed as the hot liquid brought her some comfort. Tara allowed her some space before moving over slightly.

"Friendly bullying aside, you've got to talk to someone about it. Whatever it is," Tara said and got a little more comfortable sitting position. "Just know that I'm all ears, no judgement."

Emily scoffed softly as she kept her eyes forward. Truthfully, Emily didn't know exactly what she was feeling. All she knew was that it was overwhelming. This case, her own mental health, the security of her partner, ensuring that her relationship was okay, being on top of her work, was too much for one broken inner child to handle.

But she looked over and locked eyes with the engagement ring picture on the board.

Fear. All of this was fear.
