Janet POV

"Rene is seeking for ten million from Miss Jackson for her Rhythm Nation album— Rene are you serious" I asked cutting off Rene's lawyer.

"Let him finish" said my lawyer.

I felt steam blowing out of my head as I sat back into my seat. This day was May sixteen of the year two thousand and I keep pinching myself to see if this was even real. Rene and I were in the negotiation stage of our divorce.

Rene wouldn't even look at me he just bit his lip avoiding any eye contact with me. And I never in a million years thought that I could feel this much hate for him in that moment. My lawyer Susan was such a good lawyer of mine I listened to her and held my words back.

"My client also claimed that Miss Jackson promised him a equal share of her property before the two of them were married. He is also writing a tell all book if Miss Jackson adds twenty million to his lawsuit."

"You gotta be fucking kidding me" I said laughing.

"I got this" she whispered to me.

"Gentlemen are you two saying that your attempting blackmail" Susan said with confidence.

Rene looked at his lawyer getting nervous. He stared at his lawyer while he waited for him to say something.

"No we're telling you" the lawyer responded.

"You got a lot of balls" I said pointing to Rene.

Susan grabbed my arm putting my hand down. She gave me this look telling me that she had it handled. I'm glad I trusted her because she saved me that day. In a month we had court, I was still giving Rene some of my property. But I couldn't let him get away with that book.

After our court case everything was settled. He was richer than the day before and owned some of my property's. But knowing he was still bitter I just knew he was planning on doing something with his book.

"Gil OH I'm so happy to see you"
I said giving my best friend a big hug.

Gil came to support me after court. He's not just my best friend but he's one of my dancers too.

"How are you feeling J?"

"I feel like I wanna kick his ass"

"Is he still writing that book?"

"That's what I need to find out.
His ass was trying to blackmail me"

Gil and I walked around the courthouse building hoping to find Rene before he left. Luckily I found him getting in his car. Gil and I ran up to him before he could close his door.

"Wait" I yelled getting his attention.

"What!?"

"You can forget about your twenty million because whatever's in that book ain't worth it"
I said getting in his face.

"Janet your so fucking confident. Why don't you read the book" he said handing me typed out pages.

I skimmed through the first page to read Rene complaining about how I hurt him. Skimming through the next page I stopped reading once I read "I walked in on her kissing on a woman."

"What you can't handle the truth" Rene said smiling.

"Ima wipe that stupid look off your face"

I tried to slap him but Gil grabbed me holding me back. If it wasn't for Gil I would've hit him like Joseph taught me too. And Rene knows I got my fathers hands. That's why Rene flinched when I jumped he's lucky Gil was there.

"Janet give me the book" Gil said reaching his hand.

"Take the book you'll be the last person to read it because I'm giving his ass the twenty million"

"WHAT" Gil's jaw dropped.

"You didn't even read the rest" Gil whined.

"How do you want it check or cash" I asked Rene.

"You can write me a check" he said grinning.

"Janet oh my god you didn't tell me you liked girls too" Gil said after looking at the book.

"Theres a lot she doesn't tell you.
You kinda just find out after thirteen years or so"

"Really that's how you feel" I said puffy my chest.

"Yeah Yeah that's how I feel" Rene said puffing his.

"Hey Hey" Gil said standing between us.

"I'll give you your damn check just keep my name out of your mouth" I said giving him one last look.

After that Gil walked me to my car still in shock. He stayed quiet the whole time we walked to the car.

"What's on your mind" I asked him.

"The stuff he said in the book... was it true?"

"What I read was true yes"

"I didn't know you got down like that.
He walked in on you going down— I was experimenting" I said cutting him off.

"So than why are you giving him the money?"

"Because what I do behind close doors is no one else's business. Don't tell anybody about that book Gil please" I begged him.

"Don't worry girl your secret is safe with me"
he said opening my car door.

"Thank you"

"You call me if you need anything"
he said before closing my door.

Once I got home the rain started to pour and so did my tears. Laying on my couch I poured my eyes out. I wasn't only losing my ex husband but I'm also losing my friend and business partner. Work just won't be the same without him.

Rene and I have been separate for a few months before that day. We just divorced but I feel as though I was  single for a while. After a few days of adjusting to life without Rene I got a call while at home. While cooking my dinner for that evening I heard my cell phone ring.

"Hello" I answered.

"Heyy Janet"
once I heard that deep voice my jaw dropped.

"Christopher!?"

"Yeah it's me how are you?"

"I'm hanging in there how are you?
I missed you!"

"I'm good Janet it's good to hear from you.
I heard about your divorce just wanted to let you know I'm always here if you need anything from me.
I love you"

"Awe I love you too.
I would love to see you and catch up.
It would be good to see a familiar face right now."

"I got you anything you need."

He always calls me at the perfect time just when I need to hear from him. His deep relaxing voice made me feel safe through the phone. And I couldn't wait to see him again.
