Bridger longed to be accepted. He spent his entire life doing what people told him to do because he wanted them to accept him. He portrayed himself as an arrogant, high-handed Kook because that's what people liked about him. The Kook Prince. He appeared to be a leader when really he was a follower. He followed Rafe and Topper around so people would think he was one of them. He wanted to be like them.  That resulted in him acting like them.

He'd been the archer and he'd been the prey. He spotted his target and released his arrows into their backs, scarring them with his own insecurities. He also found himself hiding under the wings of his friends so they couldn't see through him. He cut himself up to be like them, only to hate his reflection every single day after. He needed that one person to hold onto to pull him out of the black hole.

JJ Maybank was his state of Grace.

Bridger looked around the van, which he found of was called the Twinkie, in amazement. "So, you guys are like the Scooby gang?" He asked.

"Uh. . . somewhat, I guess." Pope answered.

"Cool." He grinned. "Let me guess. John B's Fred, Kiara's Daphne, Pope's Velma, and JJ's Shaggy."

JJ narrowed his eyes. "Why am I Shaggy?"

"He's the stoner."

"Ohhhh."

Pope rolled his eyes. "He'd be Scooby, actually."

"Why am I Daphne and not Velma?" Kiara questioned, almost like she was offended.

He shrugged. "Pope's the smart one in the group."

Pope smiled widely. "Thanks, Bridger."

JJ wrapped his arm around him. "My guy's so sweet." He said cheekily.

Bridger rolled his eyes and shoved his face away with his hand.

"Moral of the story is. . . I'm the good looking one?"  John B chimed from the driver's seat.

He shrugged. "I was going to say leader, but. . . sure."

The Pogues plus Bridger drove to where they were meeting Sarah. The Kook boy sat in the back with JJ and the blonde was playing with his hand, twisting the rings around his fingers. "You still have this?" He muttered and pointed to a specific ring on Bridger's finger.

It was a silver ring that JJ had found one day when they were on a walk. It was lying in the grass when he spotted it. He never thought Bridger would actually keep it. "Of course I do. You gave it to me."

A light gleamed in the his blue eyes. JJ smiled warmly.

Pope looked between them. "So, I'm still curious. How come you guys never told anyone?"
