Chapter four

Love makes you crazy

A common saying, right?

Lots of people say it.

I never realized how crazy I've looked this past week talking to Nadine until Jake pointed it out.

I was smirking at things Nadine had said when Jake raised his eyebrow at me.

"Okay, Lexy. What's wrong?" He asked, setting his spoon down.

"What's wrong is that it's a Saturday morning and Mr 'I hate cereal' is sitting in front of me eating a whole bowl of Frosted Flakes!" I scoff.

Jake rolls his eyes, waving my statement off with a small flick of his wrist. "Seriously, who've you been talking to?" He asks.

"No one?" I lie, acting confused.

"Good one, Lex."

I fight the urge to thank her, sarcastically.

"You've been holding full conversations with someone all week, and no one is even here!" Jake says.

I raised my eyebrow, was it really that noticeable? How loud have I been talking?

"Oh trust me, loud enough!" Nadine says.

"Huh?" I ask.

"Huh?" Jake repeats, leaning a little closer.

Suddenly, Devon enters the room, ending this 'interrogation' with a simple good morning.

He walks around the table to Jake, kissing his forehead before he fixes himself a bowl of cereal.

"I'm gonna go upstairs," I say, slowly rising from my seat, face flushed in embarrassment.

"Damn Lex, this must be embarrassing, huh?" Nadine asks, "Or am I on your mind?" She jokes.

"You could say that." I sigh.

I go into my room and flop on my bed, I'm not sure how to explain what I'm feeling right now, but all I know is one simple word, it's

Crazy

I feel crazy.

Maybe I am going insane, I must be out of my mind.

Suddenly, flashbacks of that night hit me.

"Nadine!!" I yell, watching the redhead fall over the edge.

I rush after her, leaning out the window and reaching down.

I manage to grab her hand for barely a second, holding onto her, protecting her.

I wasn't strong enough and everything was happening too fast.

My hand slipped and the girl I just saved fell to her death.

"Nadine!" I cried, leaning farther out the window to grab her, being way too late.

"You okay, Lexy?"

"Yeah, I'm fine.. Just thinking.."

"About what happened?"

"Huh? Oh.. Nothing."

"Lex, I'm in your mind. Whatever you're thinking, I see it." She sighs.

I let a few tears fall, I sit up, adjusting myself on my bed.

I grab her panda plushie and hold it to my heart.

"I'm sorry, Nadine." I cry, "I'm sorry."

"Don't be. It's okay, Lexy! I'm okay."

Her voice echoes in my mind in what I wonder is some kind of magic.

I'm okay

I'm okay

Nadine is okay, but she's dead.

And it's my fault.

Oh, what I would give to be holding onto this girl so tight right now.

To get the chance to tell her I love her.

Maybe I will.
