Carla was mad at me for my apparent 'episode' I had in the cave, which apparently got them all kicked out of the dead poets society. "Do you not understand? Those boys are cute and rich! We could have futures with them, but you took that away from us."
I didn't know how to respond. Instead of speaking how I felt, I apologized. "Carla, I'm sorry. I was really uncomfortable."
"Than you shouldn't have come." She snapped. "Or you should've just let Charlie move onto someone else instead of blowing up in his face." She remained calm, and that's what I liked about Carla, but her words were sharp and snippy. They hurt. A lot.
"I didn't blow up in his face. I asked him to stop."
"And he did, but you kept going!"
"He was being creepy!" I raised my voice a bit, and the students walking the halls went quiet and looked at us. "I'm sorry." I said again, this time much quieter. Carla looked at the students around us and shooed them off. "But he was being a bit creepy, don't you think?"
Carla was boy crazy, but even so, she usually kept a level head. She smiled a bit, reminiscing about that night in the cave. "No, I think he was romantic... but he's not my type." I giggled at her, asking what her type was. "Quiet... sweet... awkward kinda.."
"Pitts?" I guessed, laughing a bit at the thought of those two together. "Gerard Pitts?" Her face said it all. It was Pitts. "Damn, I thought you liked guys like Dalton."
"I used to, but usually the loud ones are compensating for something." Carla joked, and I laughed along with her.
I appreciated that Carla never held grudges with me. We had been friends since forever, so the thought of her hating me over some boys was stupid. She would never actually act that way.
It had been about a month since the last time we visited the prep boys. I honestly didn't think much of it, but occasionally, the memory of Charlie Dalton leaning into me a reciting some damn poetry crept into my consciousness. For some reason, I had missed him. Maybe Carla was some sort of mind reader because she was sorting out a plan.
Our friend, Serena, was dating one of the prep boys. Anyway, Serena had an in to get into the school, and Carla seemed intent on seeing Pitts. I guess they forgot that Meeks and I were friends, but I also had an in. Though, I didn't want them to exploit my friendship just so they could go flirt with some stuck-up rich kids. I was only going along with it just to say hi to Meeks, and that was it!
