Chapter 9

Iris POV

I woke up to see Nathon next to me in the sand with a blanket over us. I slowly stand up and crawl out from under the blanket and see that the sun was just rising. Nathon moved and I see that he was already awake.

I felt odd because once I fell asleep with him the nightmares didn't come like they normally did. He folded the blanket and I lightly punched him and said " that's for faking". He just laughed and we climbed down the hole and woke the others up.

Jennifer was the first up and asked " Where did you to go" I felt you move around till it just stopped, so where did you go. I felt a blush creep up and moved closer to the shadows and Nathon just said that we were discussing some things. She nodded but I think she didn't believe him.

I gave a barely noticeable groan and walk back out into the hot waves of the rising sun. Jennifer comes up behind me and asked "so what really happened".

I gave a groan and said "If I tell you will you stop asking".

"Yes" she said looking smug and I sighed and said me and Nathon are now as some would call it a couple, I had a nightmare last night and we ended up... confessing our feelings" I say feeling my voice choke up at the end. She nodded and smiled and I feel myself start blushing and at the perfect time the others came up and I turn around trying to hide the blush as Jennifer goes to them most likely to tell Barbra who will spread the news to the boys and I thought " yay me".

I walk over to Nathon feeling the blush slightly deepen when Barbra looks at me. I look away again and I feel Nathon's hand press against mine. He slowly takes my hand and said " I say we should be going?" They all nodded and I was relived for a bit till the conversation comes back up. We covered the hole and left no trace that we were here then started west.

I took a small sip of water from my bottle and felt the line in my bag from the blade inside it. I let my thoughts stray to Maddie and wonder " what will I do if I go against them". I remember all to well seeing the voltage bounce of her body in waves and the whips and knifes that scar her body sending puddles of blood to the floor in waves. I feel a sharp pain in my heart but I send it away not really wanting to break down in front of the others. I some reason want to hold Nathons hand for comfort and feel safe. Almost like reading my thoughts I feel his hand entwine in mine squeezing it and I squeeze back.

I can almost feel the others stare at us but didn't say anything to us. They don't know what has happened to me in the prison they don't know of the horrors only Nathon does know it but only a part of it.

We continue walking through the hot desert the heat sending waves bouncing of the soft sand. I regret losing my scarf but try not to think about it as wisps of sand dust around my face.

I stop when I hear something and I put my finger to my mouth and listen. I recognized that voice. It was the blond scientist and I say " Run!" I drop Nathons hand and take off at a almost normal speed barely slowing down or running out of breath and I tell them to keep running and I grab my knife from my bag and once I see the vehicle I threw it and it hit the engine and the gas leaked out of it and exploding and once I make sure the smoke screened me I ran to the group nearly breaking the normal human pace once I did reach them and I feel Nathon swat me and he whispered to me just where my ears could hear it "next time don't do that I can't lose you idiot!" I smile and once it started reaching evening I say with no emotion" start digging a hole we will search for some food tomorrow."

They all looked at me oddly but Nathon nodded and they started to work and I start scooping sand out of the hole forming a entrance and soon we were done and I used the scarfs to hole the sand made roof up and as they fell asleep I listened for a bit and once I was sure it was safe I drifted into slumber.
