Iris POV

I felt someone shaking me and I finally open my eyes groaning slightly. I see Nathon standing in front of me and I just pulled the pillow over my head. I hear him chuckle slightly. "Come on your the last one awake today. I groaned again but finally got up and packed the blanket and pillow.

I walked out of our hole and the sun was already hot and by my guess at the time is around 9 in the morning. I frowned I normally wake up at dawn. I feel unnaturally tired but I shrugged it off.

I looked around and Nathon was right I was the last one awake. The girls noticed me first both of them in white clothing that was now stained brown with dust and the boys wore jeans and white teeshirts. I looked at my clothing and I still had on my black yoga pants and black and silver striped shirt.

I should be the hottest on of us but I am instead cold but there was something off I just knew it but I shrugged it off again thinking it was nothing.

"Are you alright Iris you seem kinda pale" Jennifer asked and that instantly brought Nathon to my side.

"I'm fine, I'm fine" I told them but I really don't know anymore.

"are you hot?" I shook my head to Jennifer's question. I was more cold than hot but they didn't need to know that.

They didn't seem to believe me but we started walking away from camp a bag on each of our shoulders. I feel a stabbing pain in my side but I would check it at our resting stop that will be in the next few hours.

I started dragging my feet feeling slightly light headed but tried to match my pace to the others. I was now freezing in a hot desert and I had a hand on my side trying to stop that pain but when I opened it I saw blood and went slightly pale but tried to cover it up from Nathon. Not wanting him to see me like this and I don't want the others to know either. Jennifer I swear can go from friend to mother in matter of seconds and so can Barbra I bet.

The boys could hold me down in this state I bet and I look at my side and see a small diamond inside it that it would need another person to get out most likely. I mentally groaned. Just what I need now they will find out one way or another.

We finally reached our rest stop for the day and I quietly sighed in relief as I sat down away from the group but I know Nathon noticed my absence. He kept glancing at me as I held my waist and I feel my strength starting to wain because of the diamond pierced into my skin.

There was not much I could do but rest and take small sips of water from a bottle. Our food supplies is getting low so I choose not to eat as much, use to being starved by the scientist, I finished taking my share of water for the break and get up but barely hide the wince as pain shot up my side at the movement.

Once they finished and we started back I used my hand to stop the blood and I let my mind wander to the war. I know that I will be fighting with the resistance but I can't help but wonder if I can fight against Maddie or any of the other experiments that I gave false hope to in the past. But I did what we all thought was impossible ,standing up to the scientist and escape, little help from the resistance.

I continued to let my thoughts wonder and I look at the familiar landscape of dry dust and dunes a few tumble weeds and pieces of brush scattered throughout the area. A really hazardous place to live unless you were enhanced but even then you will have to find food one way or another.

I didn't see that I had trailed back till I felt a hand on my shoulder. I look up slightly and come face to face with Nathon. To my annoyance he had worry in his eyes. He shouldn't be worried, well if he knew he should but thats not the point, I let my mind wander to far and now I am paying the consequences of it and they may find out.

The last time I felt this weak was when I was nine and had the flu.

It was a snowy day outside but I was stuck inside because of the flu. My mom came in wearing her red sweater and black leggings as she helped me sit up to eat some chicken soup. I try to get back under the covers but she pulls me up and makes sure I'm eating the soup and leaves to finish house chores.

My mom is a housewife and dad works in a lab with scientist daily coming home around nine to ten every night. Normally I'm asleep by then but sometimes I'm allowed to stay up and wait for him to come home and head straight to bed afterwords.

I drank the creamy liquid letting it slide down my throat soothing it slightly. Mom has been keeping me on bed rest saying that it will help me faster but its been two weeks. I was tired of waiting in bed and all I had to do was read ,sleep and eat. I stared around my room. It was a nice room with a oak wood desk and chair to match. My walls were a beautiful purple and a dab of blue in it if you look closely. My bed was a twin size with a blue blankets and black pillows around it and some purple as well. Mom comes back in and tells me to get some sleep.

I break out of memory lane as I feel Nathon put his hand on my back and I think he's aware I was in memories since he's quiet. He hand stayed as we continued walking. I looked up to see the sun around maybe three in the afternoon. It's restless rays were beating down our backs. I feel slightly sick now and I and feeling hot and cold in the desert sun. I stumble slightly but catch myself and Nathon helps me steady myself.

His eyes narrowed and before I could react he pried my hands away from my side. He gasped quietly and I was swept off my feet and into his arms before I could blink. He hissed something to the boys and they nodded and headed most likely to set camp for tonight. He brought carried me a few meters away laid me down slowly and I tried to get up but his strong arms pinned me down while Jennifer and Barbra had medical supplies out. I groaned slightly this was going to be a long while before I can get up.

They took some anesthetic, bandages and something else I didn't recognize. They cleaned my wound and added some anesthetic on top of it. I tried to get up again but he still had me pinned as Jennifer wrapped my wound in bandages.

He finally let me up but I couldn't savor the victory as I was swept into his arms again. I feel his lips brush mine and he whispered " if you don't tell us next time we will not be so patient we will rather have you in the back of our lines than in the front because these scientist know your weakness we saw the diamond so please don't do that again" he pleaded.

I look into his brown eyes and all I saw was worry. I laid my head on his chest and gave into the darkness that's been threatening me all day.
