Later that night, I was bored out of mind and ready to fall asleep any minute. To keep myself awake and not bored, I decided to take a walk. I wouldn't go far, but I needed to sort my thoughts about the situation with my parents.
Putting my feet in a creek that probably flows from the Amazon River, I tried to think of how happy I would be when I found them. Oddly, I wasn't that excited. I would be leaving my tribe, my family that I have lived with for 16 earth circles- to go search for my supposed parents who left me in the Amazon by myself rather than live with them, maybe even out of the Amazon. I wonder what's out there. But most of all, I wonder if Lexis and I will complete the search alive.
I was almost asleep when I smelled smoke. Jumping up from my seat on the boulder I searched for the source of the smoke and flames. If it was coming from near my tribe it would be all my fault. I spotted a tiny orange dot closer to the Amazon River.
Walking closer, I realized that I could be in serious danger. It could be the white men! I got as close as I could without them seeing me. Yup, I thought to myself. It's definitely a white man. His features were obviously not Amazonian, his hair was dark brown and a little long, his skin had a healthy tan glow, and he had some stubble on his chin. Stepping closer to see if I had weapons, I brushed against a spiky plant. I wanted to scream so badly, but I stopped myself, only letting out a small yelp. Unfortunately, the man heard that. Turning his head around, his kindly light blue eyes flashed with fear. Pulling my leg out of the spikes, I ran.
