"Wait, no one told me it was 'Bring Your Kid to Work' Day?" A voice beckoned from far away.
Robyn and I both turned to see Jennifer, Robyn's assistant, marching toward us. She laughed at her own joke more than anyone else. Robyn greeted her with a warm welcome before returning to the conversation she was having.
"You think you're a comedian, huh?" I hugged her.
"I surely am funny," Jen pretended to dust off her shoulder. "What brings you here?"
"I'm spending time with bossman over here," I pointed at Rob.
We were currently at the Fenty Beauty satellite office in New York, given that the actual headquarters were located in San Fransico. Robyn had spent all morning working on a rollout for a new collection of eyeshadow along with lipsticks that should drop just in time with Christmas, and I knew that was just the beginning of the day. Her team had agreed to break for lunch, but as we tried to make it from the conference room to the elevator, others kept stopping her to pitch their ideas and get pointers on others.
"Bad day to tag along, we're all really busy here," Jen winced.
"I've noticed, yeah." I took a look around the floor. People were either at their own stations working on their computers, presenting projects in the multiple conference rooms or huddled in teams trying to troubleshoot a situation. I hadn't been to the office with Robyn since they had first set up camp, and it was a lot more fast-paced now.
"I hope you're not here to interrupt our walk. I'm craving a pastrami sandwich and you all are making it very hard for me," I told her.
"I am, sorry. But you're gonna like this one, I promise," Jen patted my arm.
We waited for Rob to finish her conversation with the young man before she turned over to us.
"Yes, sorry. What's up?" She gave us her full attention.
"Come with me, I have something really cool to show you," Jen lead us to her office.
She closed the door behind us and urged us to sit down across her desk, and so we did. I looked over at Robyn to see if she had any idea what this was about, but she just shrugged at me.
"Okay so, I just go this email from the office of the Prime Minister and the office of the Ministry of Tourism of Barbados," Jen started as she typed keys on her computer.
"Barbados?" Robyn asked excitedly.
"They're calling to take back the Global Ambassador title they gave you. Too much showing off your titties, you know?" I jokingly gestured at my chest.
"Not funny," she punched my arm.
"Ow," I jumped back. "Why do you always hit so hard?"
"Pussy," she snickered.
"Shut up, nags. Look at this." She swivelled the screen of her monitor around. On it, a digitally created image showed a street sign hanging before a clear blue sky. 'Rihanna Drive' was written on it.
"What am I looking at?" Robyn's confusion was a juxtaposition to Jennifer's massive grin.
"They wanna name a street after you! Not just any street, the street you grew up on!"
"Westbury New Road?" I asked in disbelief.
She nodded enthusiastically.
"You shittin' me?" Robyn's eyes lit up.
"No, I'm serious. They want your approval, of course. But they're planning to change the name and add a monument, do a whole big unveiling on Independence Day," Jen explained.
