Chapter 12
Together AgainYibo lay on his bed thinking of the necklace. He had a strange feeling it was definitely the necklace that belonged to his mom, but he couldn't help feeling like there was more to the story of why she had gotten rid of it. And when he wasn't thinking about the necklace, he was thinking about Zhan. The rift between them was making school even uncomfortable. With 3 weeks left until the Dragon festival break, he didn't want things to be like this because, more than anything, he was thankful that Zhan was able to find it in his heart to forgive him. He needed to see Zhan and try to make him understand that they were better together than apart. He got up and grabbed one important thing out of his desk, something that was sure to make Zhan understand his feelings for him.
Yibo arrived at Zhan's house in no time; Meilin opened the door and sent Yibo up without even warning Zhan. He knocked, and Zhan said, " Come in."
"Meilin, I'm not giving you the answers to-" As Zhan rolled around in his chair; he was completely surprised to see Yibo. He thought it was Meilin bothering him for answers to his maths homework again.
"Yibo, what are you doing here?" he asked Yibo as he stood.
Yibo didn't want to beat around the bush, so he just got straight to the point. "I'm here to fight for this relationship. One of us has to do it. One of us has to make the other see that we're happiest when we're together. I'm not just talking about since I've been back, but it's been that way since forever. We used to cry when we had to go home or when we took family vacations. If someone had told me that when Chen and I sat by you at lunch on your first day, that it would've led to all this; I wouldn't have believed it.
Yibo took a step forward and took both of Zhan's hands in his. "I probably shouldn't even say these next words, but it's the only thing I'm sure of anymore. Wei, I love you." There he said it, the words that were always on his mind, but could never come on out.
Zhan was frozen after hearing those three words. With the secret deal with Archie, he didn't know if he deserved to hear those words from Yibo. He had to make him stop. He took his hands out of Yibo and went into his bathroom and closed the door, where he let his tears fall.
Yibo paced around his bedroom, wondering if he'd made a mistake. He didn't want Zhan to say the words back. He just wanted him to know how he felt. He walked up to Zhan's bathroom door and knocked.
Zhan didn't say anything, and he went on talking. "Wei, I don't expect you to say it back, I just want you to know how I feel about you. Come out and talk to me, please."
He didn't expect it, but Zhan did come out, and he looked away. "You should take the words back; you're not going to love me once you know what I've done."
Yibo walked up to him and took his face in his hands. He made Zhan look at him. "There is nothing you could say that would make me not love you. You're talking to Lotus High's very own Avenger here."
One thing Zhan hated was Yibo's way of joking in serious situations. "Yibo, I'm not laughing. Stop putting me on a pedestal. I'm not perfect; I've done things for my own selfish reasons."
"I'm being serious. When I said I loved you, it wasn't a joke. When you love someone, you help them acknowledge their mistakes, not judge them. You told me to stop being hard on myself, so I think it's time you take your own advice. Whatever you've done, it's going to be ok. I'm not going anywhere, I promise. So just tell me already."
Zhan stared at him and took a deep breath. "I'm the reason Archie didn't press charges. When I saw him in the hallway, I begged him to change his mind. I told him I'd do anything, and he told me what he wanted. He made me promise to stay away from you. I didn't want you to leave Lotus High to leave me, so I agreed."
