Meant to Be

Chapter 3

"Hi Ezio. Miss me?" Lila's greeting made me want to kill her with my bare hands but what can I do? I think Ezio wants her more than he wants me.

Ezio didn't want me to see Lila because she will only add to my stress. Little did he know I can hear them here, the room next to where they are.

"Lila, what the fuck are you doing here?" Ezio asked tonelessly.

"I'm here for you of course. Now we can do whatever we want now that your sham wife is out of the scene." Sham wife? What the hell does that mean? And I'm pretty sure she is smiling right now.

"Not anymore." He sighed. "Things changed. She's now pregnant with my child and I love her. What we had done a few months ago is a mistake. You can now leave our house and go to your father's. I'm sure he misses you so much."

"No, Ezio! You don't love her. Let me remind you the reason why you married that slut. You married her because you want his father's company. In other words, you used her to reach your company goals. I was there, Ezio. I was there when you finally reached your dreams. I helped you with everything and we spent most of our days together since you got her father's company. Danielle is a piece of ass that you used to get what you want and now you love her? Maybe you are mistaken, Ezio. Maybe you're just saying that because you want more of her family's business. Remember Ezio, I am the one who has been at your side since we are kids. I'm the one who helped you to build your company and that is why I moved in the US with you and I'm the one who comforted you when Danielle can't do her wife duties because, according to you, she can't do anything right and one of those things is to give you a heir." Those words were like a speeding truck that crashed my reality.

Truth hurts doesn't it? All this time I thought someone loved me for who I am but it turns out, it is a lie. Tears started to fall and Laura rubbed my back to sooth me. I don't need anyone's sympathy. Not now. Not when you discovered secrets that your husband had been hiding to you. Or should I say, sham husband.

I stood up and walked away from Laura. Laura tried to talk to me but I just said that I want to be alone. I went to my room and locked it. I stripped down my dress and went to the bathroom. I fill the tub and directly submerged into it. The water is too cold but I didn't move. I put my arms around my knees and started crying. I don't know how long I've been like that but I heard Ezio's voice behind my door.

"Dan! Open the door, please. You need me there. Dan!" Ezio pleaded. I think I don't need anyone. I think I need to be alone and away from him.

"Dan! Please.."

"I think you should give her time, Ezio." I heard Laura and it's obvious that she is calming him down. Then suddenly, my surroundings became quiet and calm. Thank God he took Laura's advice.

I got out of the tub and dry myself. I lie down in bed and closed my. eyes. Too much information has been heard today that made my relationship with Ezio worst. He married me for my dad's company? The moment I met him I thought that we are meant to be. I gave him my heart but he just crushed it.

My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Dan, you should eat now. I brought you food." Laura's concerned voice is enough for me to open the door. She brought a tray with foods for me. I let her in and locked the door immediately.

"Dan, please eat now. Remember that it's not just you anymore. You have a little baby who is growing inside you."

"I want to get out of here." I whispered. I felt Laura froze as she registered what that I just said.

"Dan, please--"

"I just want to be alone. All my life I just want to be love. I want to experience what is it like to be love. My mom left me when I was a child. She said she is happy and contented with a guy she had an affair with. After that, my father treated me like a plague in his life. He never talks to me, never attended all of my graduation rites and never love me. Then there's Ezio. When he came to my life, all I want to do is to spend all of my time with him. I gave my heart to him but he crushed it into pieces." I tried to stop my tears but failed.

"Dan, Ezio loves and cares for you. Just give him another chance." Laura pleaded.

"I don't think my heart can."
