"Meeting's over"
I stood up on my chair and went to my office. It has been months since I saw Dan and I searched every possible place she can go but, unfortunately, I can't find her. This is truly my fault. I should've took care of her rather than hurt her in every way a husband can hurt his wife. After Dan's disappearance, I fired Lila, not caring her family's friendship with ours. Later on, I found out that her baby is not mine. The baby's father is none other than her ex-boyfriend, James and the good thing is, James is ready to support the baby and Lila. He must really love Lila so much.
When I got in to my office, I took my things and went home. I'll just have to drink alcohol to forget about this. To have a temporary escape from this reality and maybe, dream about Dan coming back to me. I laughed at myself. It's impossible for Dan to come back to me. I hurt her enough to send her away from me, taking our children with her.
As soon as I got home, Laura is obviously waiting for me. She's at my kitchen cooking dinner while singing. Typical Lila. I smiled while I quietly walked behind her back and frightened her.
"Fuck! Oh Ezio! Stop doing that!" Laura shouted irritably. I just laughed at her while she grumbles something under her breath.
"What are you doing here, Laura? It seems like you want something" I asked her. I sat on the chair right next to the counter and probe her.
"Hmm. You really know me so much, Ezio. Franco and I are invited by his friend to visit his newly opened restaurant in Tropea and I want you to come with us."
"No. You'll just make me babysit your kids while you and Franco do some x-rated things." I whine. Laura has a habit of bringing me to their family outing and babysit her kids.
"Please. You need a vacation too, you know. Plus, Milo and Erica miss you."
"If they missed me, they can come here anytime because you literally lived right next to me." I reasoned out.
"Please?" Then just like a snap, Laura made goofy eyes in front of me. I really hate her when she does this. It's my weakness.
I sighed and agreed to come with her. She thank me a hundred times and finished the dish she was cooking. We sat on the counter while thoughtfully eating and I'm surprised Laura brought up Dan as a topic.
"Do you miss her, Ezio?" She asked.
I want to scream her that I definitely miss Dan a lot. I missed her smile, her eyes and her light that she shines out whenever I'm stressed out. Sometimes, I dream of her in the arms of another man. What if she already moved on and is in love with that man? I slumped at that thought. Maybe I deserved to be treated this way, maybe we are not meant to be.
"Yes' I answered and look at my sister sadly.
"If you really deserve each other and God gave you another chance to fix your marriage with Dan, the universe will conspire in getting you to back together." Laura smiled softly.
"Did you just quote Paulo Coelho?" I asked incredulously.
"Yes, now shut your mouth and eat!"
