You were sat on the couch waiting for your beautiful girlfriend to get home. She had been on set since 5am, filming another new movie she'd been cast in. You couldn't begin to explain how insanely proud of her you were. She had worked her socks off to get where she was today and you were lucky enough to be the one she came home to every day.
You had just grabbed your favourite book The Secret Garden and sat back down under a blanket when you noticed that the sky outside had clouded over and it had started to spit with rain. Nothing to worry about, you knew you were forecast some rain that evening. You see, ever since you were a little girl, you had been terrified of storms. As you grew the fear became more manageable but it still absolutely petrified you every time a storm started.
As you flipped through the pages of your book you realised the rain had began to pick up. Checking the time on your phone you knew it wouldn't be much longer before Jenna got home. You can do this. You started to read again before you heard a rumble of thunder off in the distance, panic starting to settle in like a lump in your stomach. You went to the bathroom and grabbed your Oodie putting it on before heading to your bedroom and closing the blinds, just as a flash of lightning forked across the sky. You quickly ran to your bed, jumping under the covers, a habit you picked up when you were a little girl.
Another rumble, the storm was definitely getting closer now, you prayed that it passed before Jenna got home. You had been dating for well over a year now, but you were yet to tell her about your phobia of storms, and had managed to keep it quiet all this time, you didn't want her to see you any different, it was embarrassing.

Suddenly a huge clap of thunder erupted, the storm was definitely on top of your apartment now. You began to shake, trying to focus on your book but even that wasn't helping. You grabbed Jenna's hoodie from the chair by the bed and snuggled into it, the scent of her favourite perfume helping you to relax. You heard the keys in the door and another lump formed in your stomach. Jenna was home, and there was no escaping the fact that you were petrified, she would know, and the idea of her finding out made you feel sick.
You heard Jenna calling out for you, her voice growing louder as she got closer to your room. Finally, you heard the door open and the bed dip as she sat next to you. She pulled the cover off of your head, finding you bundled up and shaking. "Baby what's wrong?" she asked, concern lacing her voice. "N-Nothing baby" you said, a slight stutter to your voice. Before she could say anything, another clap of thunder rumbled and you flinched, pulling the covers back over your head.
"Oh baby, why didn't you tell me you were afraid of storms?" she said sympathetically. "It's embarrassing and pathetic" you said with a shake clear in your voice. She got up off the bed and you that was enough to confirm your fears. She was leaving, all because of your pathetic fear. But you were wrong. Jenna had got out of her work clothes and into your hoodie and her shorts before she pulled the covers back on her side of the bed and climbed in next to you. Instantly you rolled over and snuggled into her as another rumble hit.
"Baby your fear is nothing to be embarrassed about, and it certainly isn't pathetic, everyone has fears and this is yours, I would never look at you differently because you're scared. Now come here and cuddle me silly" she whispered, pulling you even closer. You were hit with instant relief, just being in her arms helped reduce your anxiety to almost nothing. She continued to whisper sweet nothings in your ear as the storm grew and died out. What felt like a few minutes was actually over two hours. "Thank you baby" you whispered to her, kissing her softly. "You never need to thank me baby, it's what I'm here for. Never feel embarrassed about it, Y/N you are my world and I'm not going to leave you over a fear baby, I'm here to help you in anyway I can, it's me and you forever baby" she whispered, reconnecting your lips.
You knew in that moment that this woman was yours, as much as you were hers. There was nobody else in this world for you, you wanted to marry her, have children with her, grow old and spend the rest of your life with her. This was the moment you knew, you were going to ask her for her hand in marriage, sooner rather than later. You just needed to plan when.
"I love you" you whispered, "so much" as you slowly began to drift off. "I love you so much too baby" you heard as you succumbed to your slumber.
