CAUTIOUSLY, EVERYONE PEERED OUT frombehind their hiding spots. Their eyebrows were quirked, frowns present on their faces. Was the almighty King of Spades so easily taken down by a bit of fire and one car crash?
"Yeah! We did it!" Players screamed, jumping up and down. Their faces morphed into grins and then back into shrieks of horror as they were gunned down once more.
The King had barely been hurt at all.
He pulled himself out of the blazing wreck of metal and smoke, pulling off his cape and tossing it to the side. With his head uncovered, the players could see that he had scars along his face and he was blind in one eye. He still had a few healing cuts, too, from Akuji's attack on him days prior.
"Get down!" Ann commanded, grabbing Akuji's upper arm and pulling her to the floor so fast they both fell over. Immediately after, a spray of gunfire hit the car they were hidden behind.
Once the gunshots seemed to fade away from where the three girls were hidden, Kuina peeked around the side of the vehicle. She cursed, "Dammit! He's after Usagi."
"Not for long." Ann returned, checking how many bullets she had left in her gun.
"Aim for his head." Akuji told her.
Nodding, Ann left her cover and stood to get better aim. She started shooting at the King but he was moving too fast. He was far too athletic for her aim to keep up. Then, he dove behind a car as he realised he was being attacked from both sides: Arisu had joined the fight with his shotgun.
When the King remerged from his hiding spot, Ann was ready to shoot -- but somebody beat her to it. An arrow lodged into the King's shoulder and everyone looked to where it had come from.
It was Akane Heiya.
Akuji shouted her best friend's name, waving at her to come over to them where it was safe.
Akane glanced over to her, grinning triumphantly as she nodded, before stringing another arrow and getting ready to shoot. However, the King turned to her and attempted to spray her with bullets. Luckily, Akane, thinking fast, bounded away on the top of the cars before hiding behind one.
Ann shot at the King as he concentrated on attacking Akane. Two random players with guns gained some courage and tried to shoot at him as well but their aim was atrocious and their balance was even worse. They fell over and whilst they were trapped on the floor, the King killed them.
The King pushed forward, shooting anyone he saw. Akuji, seeing an opening, sprinted out from behind her cover. She had grabbed the firearms and was behind cover again before the King even realised what had happened.
She'd collected two pistols with a decent amount of ammo and a mini assault rifle.
"Take one." Akuji told her friends, keeping a pistol for herself.
Ann took the other pistol but Kuina refused, stating, "I prefer my fists."
"Hey!" Akane exclaimed as she finally met up with the group. She was out of breath; panting, sweating. She leaned on the car for support as she smiled at Akuji, "Did you miss me?"
"Of course I did!" Akuji said, incredulous. She pulled her best friend into a hug, not minding the dirt and sweat that smudged on her -- she was a mess too, after all.
Akane pulled away, glancing up and down at Akuji's state, "What the hell happened to you?"
"Not much. The blood's not mine." Akuji skimmed over the details.
"Good," Akane stated firmly. Then, she directed her words to all three of them, "There's a building over there and it's got better cover. We should go." Before anyone could object, Akane checked that the coast was clear then dashed over to said building.
"Who is that girl?" Ann asked Akuji as they ran, suspicious of the newcomer.
"Her name's Akane Heiya. She's my best friend." Akuji informed her, a proud smile on her face, "You should trust her judgement. She was trained by this military expert called Aguni."
At that last word, Kuina and Ann shared a look of shock.
"Do you know him or something?" Akuji questioned in confusion.
"Know him?" Ann scoffed, "He was a pain in my ass for months on end at The Beach."
Before Akuji could reply, more gunshots were heard and the group increased their speed, diving into the open hole in the side of the building. When they looked around, they realised Usagi and Arisu were already inside.
"You guys okay?" Akuji asked and they nodded, much to her relief.
"Heiya!" Arisu exclaimed, surprised by the girl's appearance. Despite the two's earlier setbacks, he actually seemed excited to see her -- whether it was because he had another ally to help him take down the King or if he actually considered her a friend, Akuji didn't know. But it was nice either way that two of the most important people in her life got along.
Akane looked over to someone different, "Are you Usagi?" She asked. Arisu tensed. When Usagi nodded, she smiled, "Good to meet you."
"He'll run out of ammo soon. Stay in here where there's cover." Somebody new but still familiar stated.
The group looked up to see Aguni heading over to them. Of course, he had an assault rifle in his hand and a look of determination in his eyes. He was here for one last final fight.
"What is he doing here?" Akuji asked, not out of malice but out of curiosity. What was the chance that they would all meet up like this again? Barely anything but it had still happened. "Is this a family reunion or something?"
Aguni snorted, almost as if he was amused by her words, before inclining his head toward the girl, "I followed Akane here."
"So you do care about me." Akane stated, smiling with tears pricking in her eyes.
Aguni did not respond though the corners of his lips quirked upwards for one quick second before he became serious again, "The King is human, he's not invincible. And as for his guns, he won't be able to shoot forever. Once he's out of ammo, he'll need to restock. I think they drop supplies from the blimps."
"We've all got weapons." Arisu stated, holding up his shotgun.
Everyone followed his lead, showing their own weapons. Usagi smiled down at her muscles since speed and strength was her greatest ally, Kuina clenched her hands into fists, Akane checked her bow and amount of arrows, Ann held up her guns -- and Akuji, although she had two firearms as well, the sole thing that had got her this far was her unwavering determination.
With a team this strong, surely they would win.
