TEN YEARS LATER, AKUJI was twenty nine and finally happy.

Tokyo had returned to normal. Her life had returned to normal. She had lost people in her life, such as her mom, but she had also gained people: Arisu, Usagi, Kuina, Chishiya...The list was long.

And what made life as normal as it could be was that Akane and Akuji were late, as usual.

"Holy fuck, Aguni is going to kill me!" Akane stressed as she and her best friend rushed down the path that lead to Arisu's house.

"I'm sure he'll understand. I mean, Arisu and Usagi love me to bits so I'm off the hook." Akuji stated. Then, she frowned, "But this isn't the best impression for meeting my god-daughter."

"Adulting is hard." Akane groaned like she hadn't been doing it for the past ten years. In her defence, she had spent most of it in a broken society that was recovering from a natural disaster.

Eventually, the two reached Arisu and Usagi's house. They had gotten married a few years before and Usagi had given birth to a wonderful daughter a month prior. After settling in at home, Arisu and Usagi had invited over all of their friends to meet their child.

Akuji shoved open the front door - she had her own key - and barged into the living room, exclaiming, "We're here!"

The group stared at the two that were panting and breathless, before Aguni dead panned, "Finally."

"Don't worry," Chishiya stated with a hint of a smirk on his face, "Kuina was late as well, she only arrived five minutes ago."

The woman stopped cooing over the newborn they had all come to see and pouted, "It's not my fault! This lady wouldn't pay for her wedding gown at my work."

Akuji had grown close to both Chishiya and Kuina. Chishiya had helped her pass her biology exams in school since he worked as a doctor, and had supported her in becoming a psychologist. They were both fascinated with the human mind.

Akuji had also found out Kuina was transgender after the woman had confided in her about problems with her dad. He was transphobic and Akuji knew what it was like to have a parent that she didn't particularly like nor agree with, so she supported Kuina through that. Due to this, Akuji had gone down a rabbit hole of research about the LGBTQ+ community and came to the conclusion that she was a lesbian as well as being demiromantic and asexual. This meant she only felt attraction to women and nonbinary people but she was not interested in sex at all, and she only felt romantic attraction with people she had an emotional connection to.

"Leave the girls alone." Ann spoke up. She nodded her head at the baby in the cot that they were all crowded around, "Come say hi."

Akuji rushed over, more than excited. She leaned over the side and gushed, "Aww, aren't you just the cutest? Yes, you are! You are the cutest little baby ever, aren't you?"

Usagi and Arisu laughed at Akuji's voice raising a couple octaves as she cooed over their child.

"Yes, I am!" Akane joined in, pretending to be the baby.

"How sweet." Usagi commented with a smile as she watched her baby giggle, eyes wide and sparkly with joy.

"Can I hold her?" Akuji asked.

"Of course." Arisu replied. Carefully, he picked up his child and set her in Akuji's arms.

Akuji gently held the child close to her, grinning so wide her cheeks hurt. She couldn't believe this was happening. She was so overjoyed; it was like her heart was about to explode with happiness.

"So, how has she been? Is she a good baby or a bad baby?" Akuji asked as she gently rocked her god-daughter. The baby gurgled and reached out for her. Grabbing the baby's hand and pressing a soft kiss to it, Akuji said, "But you're definitely a cute baby!"

"Oh, she's been so good." Usagi replied almost in relief. "I think she favours her father a little bit too much, though."

At his wife's words, Arisu laughed and leaned in close to press a kiss to his daughter's forehead. The baby squealed and tried to grab his nose in excitement, subsequently smacking him in the face.

"I take it back!" Usagi laughed.

Akuji laughed too, "We all know that I'm the favourite."

Kuina scoffed light-heartedly, "Don't be so certain. We'll be competing for that title." She leaned in close to the baby, cooing, "Isn't that right, sweetie pie?"

Akane grabbed the baby's hand and playfully slapped Kuina's face with it, putting on a child's voice again, "No! Me like Akuji best!"

"Don't hurt my girl like that." Ann pretended to scowl in protest of her best friend being harmed. Akane used the baby's hand to lightly slap her in the face, too.

Suddenly, an alarm went off. Arisu checked his phone then stood from his seat on the couch, announcing, "Dinner's ready."

He left the room, shortly followed by the rest of his friends. Well, it seemed more like they were family, actually. They had a bond that often made Akuji believe they had to have known each other in another life; they had to have protected each other.

Either way, Akuji was happy - happier than she'd ever been before.

And it stayed that way for the rest of her life.
