"That was not what you told us it was going to happen." Ghost said, looking down at the girl in front of him, arms crossed at his chest.

"That wasn't what I expected to happen." She answered, looking up at him. She promised herself she wasn't going to let him make her feel insignificant and inferior, and forcing her confidence was the first step.

"LT, it's fine, as long as we get to catch him this shouldn't be that much of an inconvenience."

"What are you going to do now? Even if he agrees to accept you back, how are we going to catch him?"

"We hope he'll ask to see me." She said, running a hand through her hair, sighing lightly. "I didn't know what to say okay? I was expecting him, not someone else."

Evelynn took a sit on the armchair, crossing her legs. She let her head back, closing her eyes for a moment.

"If he wants to see me he is an easy target."

"Yeah, assume you're right." Ghost said, running his chin through his mask. "Okay I think you'll need comms to be able to communicate with us better, and it will be safer."

"Aww, you care about my safety?"

"No." Ghost said firmly. "I care about the safety of the mission. Giving you that damn comms isn't only for your safety, but for my men as well."

She didn't know if he meant it, or if he just wasn't the type of person that would show that they care about certain people. But why would he care about her anyway? They met a few days ago at the strip club. She was so sure it wasn't even 100% sure he wanted to bring her here anyway. He just accepted her because they needed her to catch Il Diavolo.

She crossed her arms at her chest, looking up at the tall man, who was standing a few feet away from her. He looked down at her seriously, his large frame forming a shadow against her. The lights were right behind him, making her only see his massive siluette.

"Well if that's your reasoning, I guess I'll happily get the comms, sir."

"Not like you had a choice, anyway."

"Damn, alright." She chuckled lightly, still looking at him. "Can it be used for casual conversations as well?"

"This is serious, Evelynn."

"We use it for that mostly." Soap whispered to the girl, making her smile.

It was nice to know there are more people there that had the same thoughts as her, and weren't as serious and boring as Ghost seemed to be.

"I heard you, Sargent."

"I said nothing." He chuckled, rising his hands in defense, jokingly.

Evelynn was surprised down inside how Soap was so casual with Ghost, talking like they were friends, brothers even. The others seemed close too, but not as close as him.

She didn't expect her to grow closer to Ghost. As a matter of fact, she didn't think she'll ever see them after catching Il Diavolo anymore. She was going to go back home and everything was going to be back to normal.

She wanted it back to normal. She missed going to college, get home, go to her job, and back home. It was a routine she didn't know she wasn't ready to break it until then.

She found it ironical how she missed it, because she was always complaining about having a boring life and wanting some action in it. And now when she finally had the action she always wanted, she suddenly missed the monotony.

The day went on normally, the boys minding their own business, Evelynn minding hers, sometimes interacting with the others as well, but not enough to get to know them, just for wasting some time until she has to go to bed.

She didn't understand why couldn't she just go to her house and stay there, and then come back to their base whenever they needed her. She didn't like the idea of straight up living in the same place as them, but it seemed like there wasn't much of her choice.

The following morning she woke up just as early as she used to do whenever she was meeting Il Diavolo, starting to get ready. She dressed up casually, jeans, tube top and a jacket on top. She stopped in front of the mirror to admire herself, before putting her earpiece in, covering it with her hair.

The men were waiting for her already, so all she assumed was that they woke up way earlier than her, or they just don't sleep, which, if it was true, it wouldn't surprise her.

"Good morning, Eve." Soap said, in a cheerish voice. His energy was something else, but she was enjoying it.

"Morning boys. For how long have you been up?"

"Hm not too long, I woke up like half an hour."

"Keep the chatting down, we need to leave." Ghost spoke, as he took the car's key.

"Is he always like this?" Evelynn whispered to Soap, as all of them followed the tall man to the car.

"Like what?"

"So bossy and antisocial."

"Hes a good man, Evelynn, he just went through a lot of shit, and tries to keep us away from it. He might seem mean and all that, but he cares about everyone around him, and wants to keep us safe, including you."

"He should just tell people around him that he cares, he just makes me feel like he hates me from the bottom of his heart."

"He sucks at dealing with his own emotions, he just surpresses them to hell and back."

"I've noticed that."

The ride was silent then, Evelynn didn't dare to talk to the other men in the car, especially in Ghost's presence. She was afraid she might say something that would piss the man off.

On the other side, Ghost was enjoying the silence in the car. It was too early for him to deal with noisy people, and he barely got to close an eye the previous night. He deserved some quietness and peace, at least during the ride.

"Im gonna park the car here, and in case he takes you to the dealer we will follow you. Don't forget to use your comms, in some kind of way or another."

"I'm smart enough to figure out how to use it."

"Sure you are." Ghost responded, looking at her through the mirror. "Now get out."

The girl didn't say anything else, she just left the car, making her way behind the pub she was going to meet Dante. The street was still dark and empty, a light scent of fried bacon and strong alcohol was coming from the inside of the pub.

Short enough, she heard steps coming from behind her, making her to turn around, facing the tall man. She gave him a light smile, waving at him.

"Dante, hi."

"I see you're still punctual. 7 o'clock in the morning. I've talked with the boss about the conversation we had yesterday."

"And?"

"He wants to see you, now. Follow me."

"Now? Where are we going to meet him?"

"You'll see. Follow me now."
