The sun was slowly hiding behind the countless tall buildings that were towering the café Evelynn was working in, letting the sky catch a beautiful shade of orange. It was the time for her to close the café and go on with her evening just as she did every single day.
And just as usually, the door opened with a few minutes before closing, when she was cleaning around.
"Simon!" She said, before even looking to him. She just knew thay he could be the only one that would be.
"Evelynn, sound so happy to see me." He said with a chuckle.
"Pff, that's just in your head." She said with a smile, letting the broom aside. "Do you have any plans for tonight?"
"Not at all. I'm all yours."
She'd smile, nodding.
"Bet, wanna go have a drink? It's Friday evening, let's have some fun."
"I'm not the most outgoing person but I'd kill for a drink."
"What do you drink?"
"Bourbon."
"Like a good ol' boy."
Evelynn just turned around to take her bag, without noticing the tint or red that brushed against the man's cheeks. His heart skiplrd a beat at her words. This feeling was something unfamiliar to him, giving him a hard time understanding what it meant.
"I know a really good bar around here, trust me with that?"
"Sure, you know London more than I do."
Evelynn smiled proudly as she grabbed his hand, pulling him after her. He was amused by her excitement for just having a drink together, but just played along, walking behind her.
The way to the bar was quiet, but both of them seemed to enjoy the silence, or at least Simon did.
Evelynn was dressed up in only a cropped t-shirt and a pair of shots, and at that time of the day anyone would feel cold, but due to the excitement she was feeling, cold was the last thing that was bothering her. Seeing her outfit Simon knew he was going to give up to his jacket later that night, he didn't have a problem with that thoughts though.
The bar was pretty crowded, yet they found a table for themselves. The moment he noticed all the people there Simon kind of regreted going to that specific place, but he couldn't back down now, could he?
"Wow, emptier than I remembered." She said, looking around at all the people enjoying their drinks, most of them being middle aged men, drinking beer.
"Emptied? This is overwhelming in my standards."
"Nah, usually people would even stand up to drink here."
"Remind me not to come here, ever again."
She just giggled, shaking her head lightly. She was only joking with him, his reactions being quite funny, that being the only factor that kept her joking.
"So, what do you wanna drink?"
"Jack Daniels with cranberry juice."
"Ice?"
"Of course."
"Be right back."
The man stood up, walking up to the bartender to order their drinks. Of course, what he ordered wasn't something that would take much time to prepare, but it was enough to leave Evelynn alone.
As soon as he turned around with the glasses, he noticed an older man, looking like he was in his fourty's, trying to catch her attention, by grabbing her arm, even though she kept pulling away.
She looked uncomfortable, and that was upsetting Simon.
He hurried up at the table, letting the drinks down, staring at the man. His body was tensed up in anger, as he grabbed his collar, pulling him to his height.
The man looked up at him, his feet trying desperately to touch the floor underneath them. His eyes widened as he realized how tall and massive the man in front of him was.
"Why were you bothering her?"
"I...I wasn't."
"Oh, weren't you?" Simon asked, his eyes darkening as his lips curled up in a wide, strange smirk. "Why don't we ask her? Was he bothering you?" He asked, as he turned his head to Evelynn, who only nodded at his question.
Simon turned back to the man, his smirk growing even wider, as he slammed his body into the wall behind him, making the man let out a groan.
"Let me teach you some fuckin' manners." He said, as he lifted him even higher. "When a lady says no, or she's visibly irritated by you, you fucking stop whatever the hell you do. Got me?"
"Y...yes." He mumbled, closing his eyes.
"I did not fucking hear you."
"Y..yes sir!"
Simon nodded, visible satisfied with the reactions the man had. He just threw him on the floor, before sitting back next to Evelynn, pushing her glass.
"What would have I done without you, my hero?" She asked with a light chuckle.
"Pff, I know, right?"
She smiled, looking him up and down for a moment. Her eyes fell on his chest, as a piece of metal was laying on top of his t-shirt, shining in the light.
Simon 'Ghost' Riley
She sipped from her drink, looking away from him, as soon as she read the name on the dog tag. She felt there was something about this man that was reminding her of Ghost, but she could never think he was Ghost.
After months of overthinking that he wasn't visiting and he didn't want to see her again. After months in which she wanted to reach him through the comms. She finally understood that he was always there.
She didn't want to mention it, at least not yet. She decided she wasn't going to talk about thia and just wait until he was going to finally confess to her, and tell her who he really was.
She didn't know how long that would take, but she was willing to wait months, or even years until then.
