OKAY, SO. FOR THE FUTURE HAS GOT ME TO SHIP HUNTLOW/WINTER A LITTLE BIT, HAHAHA.
If you know that scene, then you know-
Buuut, that does not mean I'll just randomly add Huntlow to the story. If anything, I'll probably write a separate Huntlow story. Probably.
Anyways, enjoy this chapter! My Owl House fixation has returned at full power! :D
And... ooh, the next chapter is gonna be fun.

“I just feel…like I can’t help.” Hunter lamented, staring at his mask in his lap, gazing into his reflection in the polished steel. “I’ve been fighting on the wrong side for so long...and now that I’m trying to do the right thing, I can’t do anything about leaving the wrong side.”
Vee’s eyes softened, her face full of sympathy as she looked at him. “I’m sorry that you feel that way.”
“It’s okay.” Hunter said, before smiling. “At least they’re warming up to us, I think. Luz is clearly not a villain, and King’s just a kid. Just sucks that I have to put up this brooding and silent act around them so Belos doesn’t get suspicious.”
Vee smiled a bit. “At least you don’t do it around me.” She said, putting her hands on the bars.
Hunter turned to smile at her, but then his eyes widened when he saw Vee’s hands had burns and cuts all around them. He quickly scooted closer. “W-What happened…?”
Vee’s smile faded and she retracted her hands, almost as if trying to hide them. “I-It’s nothing, really.”
“No. Please. Tell me.”
“...I-I screwed up.” Vee whimpered, tears developing in her eyes. “The Warden and The Captain wanted to experiment with my ability to shapeshift and drain m-magic…I-I couldn’t do either...and they h-hurt me…”
The Golden Guard’s heart broke into millions of pieces and he reached in, holding Vee’s hands, trying not to think back to the countless scars he himself had. “I’m so sorry…”
Vee’s smile slowly returned. “I-It’s okay. I-I’m just glad I’m not alone…it makes it easier to heal.”
Hunter slowly smiled back, thinking how being friends with Kiki definitely helped him. “Yeah. It definitely does.” He then grabbed his staff, gently stroking her knuckles. “Hang on, I’ll heal-”
“N-No, you’ll get caught.” Vee said, squeezing Hunter’s hands before retracting her own. “L-Let them heal on their own…I-I don’t want you to get hurt, too.”
Hunter wanted to help her, especially with how he was failing to help Luz and King…but Vee did have a point. If he healed her right now, everyone would get suspicious. “Fine…I guess another scar on me would look pretty bad, heh.”
Vee nodded before she watched him stand up. “You have to leave again…?”
“Yup. Gotta give Luz and King their lunch.” Hunter said as he put the Golden Guard mask back on again, with his hood going over his head and him leaving towards the dungeon.
And when he arrived, Luz and King were almost waiting for him. But Luz looked much more sympathetic than she ever had before.
However, the Golden Guard didn't say a word, even as he approached them with two bowls of Witch's Brew, a type of soup with eyes of newts and legs from frogs, and then slowly slid the bowls over to the two.
