Chishiya and I arrived at the Beach; however, the vibe was off... there was no loud music playing and people cheering. It was silent.
"I'll see you," Chishiya puts his hood up as he starts to walk off, "Thanks again."
He keeps his head low as he speedwalks into the building in front of us, leaving me behind. I stop walking and look up at the Beach. The brick walls and the lights inside radiate out into the black night. I sigh at the sight, hoping that if I do go back to the real world one day, then I'd see this at all the buildings. I miss the lights that covered the streets and shined on my face.
I start to walk again toward the building.
- Kuina's POV -
"So?" A voice crept up behind me, "How was he? Is he good?"
I turn around to see Chishiya with his hood up. I look back at Arisu being escorted by Hatter. I reply, "He's great."
I look back to see Chishiya also looking at Arisu... his hand on one of his shoulders, tracing his thumb across the seam. I try to peek under his fingers, but I saw nothing. I furrowed my eyebrows at the sight, confused as to why his hands are not in his pockets or buried under his armpits from crossing his arms. What happened?
"What's on your shoulder?" I ask.
His eyes dart from Arisu to me. He slowly put his hands back in his pocket and slightly rocked back on his feet. He cleared his throat, "Nothing. My muscles are just sore."
I put my fake cigarette in my mouth and bite down on it, "So you were in a spades game?"
"No," He replied blandly, "It was a clubs game... eight of clubs..."
I widened my eyes, "That's such a high number... and Hatter also needs that card... they've been looking for it for a while."
Chishiya lightly smiles, nods and looks at his feet. I cross my arms and slightly bend over to take a closer look at his face... he is smiling?
"Did something happen?" I probe, being blunt.
"No," He says as he straightens up, now with his usual downturned smile. He's back in his usual character, "I think they're calling an executive meeting... I'll see you later."
Chishiya starts to walk away from me, with his hood still up and his hands in his pockets. I call out, "Wait!"
He stops and turns around. I cross my arms, "When can I see Y/N again? You said that you wanted to observe her before she joins in on our plan. I miss her... I don't get why you told me to not get near her."
"Ah," He shuffles his feet, "She did good. She'll be part of the plan."
Chishiya starts to walk again and I take the fake cigarette out of my mouth. I watch as he takes his steps forward, then his hand returns back onto his shoulder, his thumb rubbing the seam. I peel myself away from the sight. I sigh and I start to head toward the main building of the Beach to find Y/N.
- Y/N's POV -
I slowly stroll through the halls of the Beach, looking at the different rooms and people that pass by me. All of a sudden, the music starts to boom again and the vibe of the Beach uplifts. I exhale in relief as I reach the annex. I lean against a pillar and look down at the first floor, eyeing where Chishiya approached me just to say that I was weak and unworthy.
I pursed my lips together, trying to forget that he said those words but they still stuck with me. His unwavering stare and the cold tone in his voice... the way he had the audacity to tell me that before he got to know me hurt me in a way I didn't want it to. I tried so hard to not get riled up by someone else's opinions, and I developed a mask that helped me cope with harsh words. It worked with others but with him, I really got hurt deep down... I just don't want to admit it.
