Two of a Kind

Chapter 2: The Kind Man and The Brave Woman

They finished their dinner after having a bit of small conversations between mouthfuls.

Vanessa dabbed the corner of her mouth gently with a cloth  before speaking

"Well, thank you very much for dinner tho there is a question that has been bothering me..."

Dappert quirked a brow at her curiously

"What would that be?"

Vanessa leaned back in her chair twirling her silver hair a bit

"Who is your boss? And why did he send such a kind man like you to 'collect' me?"

Dappert looked toward the ground frowning

"He goes by the name Val'dorn, no one is quite sure what his real name is, but it is very sweet of you to say such thing about the man that was going to steal you away from home..."

"Therefore I am anything but kind, Lady Vanessa."

She huffed a bit in disagreement

"Dont be so hard on yourself, I'm sure you had a very good reason to follow such orders."

"If you dont mind me saying, you are far to handsome to not have a family to support, I will be surprised if you don't."

After a pause from Dappert she sighed

"Well, I have many things to attend to thank you again for dinner, Dappert."

"Wait."

Dappert's voice was full of sadness and concern

"I can't let you go Vanessa...but you are sadly mistaken...I am single and have been for many years..."

"Tho back to the original subject, Val'dorn is still hunting you. I understand if you think of me as an enemy but I see us as two of a kind."

"What I am trying to say is that you are in a lot of danger if you leave alone Val'dorn will surely catch you and won't hesitate to make you bleed as he drags you back with him."

"So please..."

"Come with me so I can protect you."

Vanessa was taken by surprise my how genuinely concerned he was for her safety

"Your face says it all, Dappert."

"But it also shows me that if I don't go willingly you will be forced to take me, like it or not to 'protect' me."

"So be it."

"But if you try anything I will not hesitate to protect myself."

Dappert smiled at Vanessa warmly before his face became stern

"Let's go, Val'dorn should already know of my failure to do as told so he will be after us soon."

They stood up and he lead the way down the road to a future unknown.
