Quick A/N I swear it's important.

If you have watched Harry Potter, Alanie is the size of the white dragon in the 8th movie. Or 7th... Or... Oh gosh. THE SEVENTH BOOK! Haha.. yea. So when I say great hall sized just imagine that, Potterheads. And if you aren't a Potterhead.. Well, I'm sorry, google that scene.

Chapter 10|Rosalie

Empis was much larger in person. And much, much larger than Alanie. Alanie was already large, she would fill the great hall back home, and would still have room. Empis, however, was huge. Though, I was hiding inside the cave a little so Empis couldn't see me.

The wind was so strong, blowing my hair and clothes all about. I watched as Empis gave Alanie all that she requested. Empis helped her attach everything to her back.

"That should hold." Empis said proudly.

Alanie thanked him, telling him that she must be off. But Empis stopped her quickly.

"What is that, I smell?" He asked. "It's coming from you, and the cave. It smells.. Human..?" Empis glared cautiously at Alanie.

"I don't know what you're talking about, Empis. I haven't been around a human in a century." Alanie snapped back.

"Yes, yes, well, I must warn you, things are turning odd. The other day I went to visit my dear Feneré, you must know him, he is quite young and adventurous." Empis paused; Alanie nodded. "Well, he was dead. In his cave. Dead Alanie!! He was only 200 something. I am worried. Dragons don't just die on a whim."

"I know, Empis. I do, I am sorry for your loss, but I really must be going."
Alanie turned and made her way to where I stood, frozen.

"Oh! Fine. Goodbye." Empis turned and opened his giant wings, then took off.

When Alanie got to me, she immediately bent down allowing me to climb onto her neck. Alanie turned and opened her massive wings, and took off, just as Empis had moments before.

"Off to Timiner." I muttered.

~~

It was a massive battlefield. Just like on Father's strategy table. I was shocked at the sight, and we were still in the sky. All around was war, death, pain. Alanie flew over the villages in Timiner. Destruction. There were people in the streets, screaming, fighting, crying. Just so much pain in this land. I didn't know what was going on, not really, but I knew that innocent people shouldn't have to suffer.

Suddenly pain surged in my arm. I cried out, and tried to yank my arm off Alanie's neck where our marks sealed together, but it was stuck. I pulled but the mark started to burn and glow. I screamed when the pain reached my heart. It was like the organ was being plunged into boiling hot water, along with my arm. My vision hazed but I was determined to fight it. And yet, fate would not have it. The pain in my arm, in my heart rose to my head. With one final, agonized scream, I collapsed, my arm disconnected from Alanie's mark, and the last thing I saw was Alanie's underbelly and shocked face as I fell. Then nothing.

~~

I woke up lying on something relatively solid, yet slightly squishy. I opened my eyes to see a beautiful green tree above me. I was lying on the ground, on a bed of soft green grass. Slowly, to make sure I was okay, I sat up. Looking around, I didn't recognize anything and I didn't see Alanie. My body was covered in cuts and bruises. All of my muscles were sore, but nothing felt broken and there was no blood.

"You're awake." A voice said from in front of me.

I jerked my head up. There was a man in front of me. A few years older than I, nineteen, maybe. He was tall, and built, like my brother. He had shaggy dark brown hair and striking emerald eyes. I recognized him immediately.
