Chapter 21 - Calm Before the Storm

Shizu's P.O.V

We gathered around home base, all in a circle with Umbra and Laura in the middle. We didn't waste any time, so as soon as the quick introductions were made, the two heads of the pack dove right in.

" this guy's, been the head of all this chaos, the marionette to the puppets of madness. He's been in control of the villains you all fought at the government building, the attacks at the school, Kol, and so much more that I feel I'm not classified to state or approve of." Began Laura, a notepad in hand. Umbra added on to the puzzle they were putting together for us going,

" now it's time to end the show then. We cut the strings to the puppets, then the marionette is just a guy. His puppets: Rain, M.M those henchmen, all of those characters that we have encountered, who we have fought."

I glance at everyone and their emotions, everyone was trying to pay attention, but it was difficult with the recent events.

My clothes are still smothered in soot.

Umbra is stained in dry rose liquid.

" we know the location, the men, the tactics, everything. All we need to do is use it to our advantage." Umbra's voice smashed through my thoughts that were built around me.

I had a feeling what the plan was, two or three of us would go in and distract the main villains while the others go in, take out the henchmen, and save Shino.

And that was the exact reason lab we came together with. But with one more branch.

While discussing, Pheobe piped in a very important detail that has also been poking my brain " I think we might need a bit of a backup plan. The last mission we went on almost worked, until some of us almost died". I tried to keep myself from glancing at Rikku as she continued.

" we need a plan that can wrap up the loose ends that could possibly arise."

Umbra and Laura glanced at each other, sharing the same idea. I'm pretty sure those two have become kind of close, since Artemis' more sadistic form is a bit more psychopathic and agrees to Laura's anarchist philosophies.

" are you thinking what I'm thinking?" She whispered to him, but I was able to overhear their private comments.

" we need to end it like that. I prefer it that way compared to the liberal way." Umbra whispered back.  The two looked towards us, scanning all of our faces.

" we have a back up plan. But you won't like it." They said in unison, leading us to the metal scraps Umbra was interest in before Laura appeared.

As the two dug around and tore away the sheets covering the area, we gasped at what laid ahead. An 8ft red and purple designed NASA rocket glowed in the dusk light, the tip gleaming for action.

A numb shock shuddered through my system, around me, the others felt the same. Then, behind me, Larson stormed up to the Ivory haired vindictive hero, latching onto his shoulders and starring into his eyes " you don't mean?-"

" yes Larson, we are." He interrupted simply

" but that'll!..."

" we have to, it's our endgame move."

The two stared at each other, sending mental messages before explaining their train of thought.

This would be our concluding battle, but I have a feeling that some of us won't make it.

Everyone went to the snack bar to discuss their opinion of the plan, but I was overwhelmed. All I could see was Rikku going super nova and her blood soaked torso.

I sat in the safety shack, legs to my chest as I huddled in the corner. I couldn't let them see me like this.

I usually try to keep a concerned, caring, optimistic personality around everyone, so I couldn't let my friends see me break down like this.

It's not that I don't have confidence in this, I do, but I just don't want anything to happen to the others..... like last time.

I need to work on my skills, I need more control over my quirk, I need to be better, I need to-

" Shizu? A-are you in here?"

Rikku's head pokes around the door frame, her bold blue eyes shining with concern when she caught my expression.

She quickly made her way next to me, " what's wrong? Is it about the plan?" She asked , putting her hand on my shoulder.

All I could do was give her a pained smile " it's amazing, seeing us all come together as a group, discussing a plan to save someone in our family. But I can't help but....."

Rikku seemed to know what I was trying to say.  " you're afraid that it's going to spiral just like at the government building. That someone is going to get hurt." She clarified, I buried my head in between my knees, but instead, Rikku cupped my chin between her fingers, forcing me to look up at her.

" I know that you try to keep everyone safe, to try to be the carrier to all of us. And we all loved you for that, well I do more but...." I smirked shyly, hoping to hide my blush as she continued

" but you can't keep that up. Not matter what, there will be error in every plan, idea, strategy, there's no way around it. What matters is trying to continue." Rikku's words, like her quirk, exploded in my mind, causing me to go into a deep dive of my thoughts.

She didn't need to hear some of this, she could just know. We've been through so much together, family drama, secrets, questioning our gender and sexuality, fights.

Almost as if we can read each other's thoughts... cheesy in a cute way.

I wrapped my arm around my girlfriend's shoulder and half her torso, pulling her close to me as I buried my head in the crook of her neck.

" this is it, isn't it? This is the battle that will determine it all." Rikku mumbled, her chin quivering on my back. I squeezed my eyes as tight as possible, trying to hold back the tears leaking from my blue eyes.

I don't want it to happen again. I can't see her get hurt again.

I must've said it out loud because Rikku soothed back " it won't. Even if it does, it won't be your fault. It will never be your fault."

We stayed like that for hours, sharing our love and warmth, for this could be our last time together.

I have to apologize, I'm so far behind on updates.

So, because of some recent events in my life, the schedule is changing, except new chapters during the weekend.

I hope you enjoyed, I had to add in some other ships, so yeah.

I miss writing for you guys, but I have a lot in my life goin on, so yeah the chapter are being moved to the weekend.

I don't know what else to say, I will announce new stuff at the end of the book.
