Chapter 29 - Settling

Shino's P.O.V

Been a few weeks now, we were all out of the hospital. Some of us still had to have some braces or casts on certain parts of us, others with medical wrap so the wounds could heal.

Arty had a knee brace that would be on for a while, and the slight limp is probably going to be permanent. Jack still gets a few migraines. Shizu's hands are going to be scared pretty badly, but we don't mind. Rikku is now lightly pinker in pain he skin. And a couple other injuries in the group.

After my little... love connection with Artemis, I had to wrap my shoulder and neck in sticky gauze pads to make it look like it was part of my injuries.

Thankfully, Blake bought it. I don't think the others did though.

They won't stop giving me the look!

Days later, we attended Phoebe's funeral. It was... unique if you would call it that.

I don't have a lot of words for it though.

I didn't know what was sadder, loosing her or the fact that she was my dorm mate and we barely had any time together to become close.

She now has a small plaque next to database's in her honor.

Things somewhat went back to normal.... Well as normal as things can get.

Patron went off to start his new life, got a job in Canadian Militias, a nice apartment in the middle of town. He's doing pretty good on all accounts.

Still sends me emails that he now has the right to arrest people and put them through heck in questioning if he thinks they are committing crimes against the country.

Including if I get in the same bed as his brother under his knowledge.

Laura.... Off the grid. Again.

Jack is pissed about that, but right now he's just trying to pass school and get along with Blake.

Buck and Marshal are doing good together, despite their frequent fights.

But everyone has been moving on. Our scars will be permanent, but we are healing.

But that leads me to one more thing.

Months later, Arty and I graduated Monarch Academy, and we've been trying to start a life together.

Today, I was finally going to surprise one of two things I was planning with Artemis.

I've been doing a lot of research, and as I drive out into the farming lands with Artemis sitting next to me, I can't help but choke down a grown unease bile deep in my stomach.

" are you going to tell me where we're going, or are you just going to keep your nervous gaze on the road until you hit something?" Joked the young black and white boy next to me.

I loved that we were together now, no more secrets, no more missions of blood craved villains. Just me and him.

" we're almost there, it'll be alright." I reassured, a nervous smile on my lips.

Will it though?

There had been so much drama when it came to our lives, the people we loved, the people we related to. I really hoped I wasn't about to open the flood gates again.

If so, shoot me!

We pulled up to a white and gray house right smack dab in the middle of gorgeous valleys and rich green grass.

Oh boy.

" S-Shino?.... What is this?" Artemis asked worryingly, a nervous gleam in his eyes as he studied the terrain.

I took a breath " Arty, you have been with me from the beginning, stayed by my side through every twist and turn. I can't thank you enough."

" so I don't know if what I'm about to do is a way to show my love or is just going to get us in deeper doo do."

I looked away shamefully, I didn't want him to see how scared I was for this. Instead, my boyfriend simply gripped my hand and gave me an encouraging smile and nod.

" you don't have to be nervous. I'm with you, no matter how many stupid actions you make. Just be honest with me, ok?"

I love him.

We made our way out of the car, trudging up to the front door of the dream like home. I stood in front of the door, Artemis behind me. Taking another deep breath, I wrapped my knuckles against the dark wood.

" just a minute!" A kind voice announced through the walls. The doorknob shook as the door reveal a kind elderly woman, crystal blue eyes and beautiful gray and black hair. Beside her, an elderly tall man with snowy hair.

" can we help you young man?" The older gentleman asked, gazing down at me. His eyes were very dark in the shade, so dark it took me a minute to notice the shading of Byzantium purple in them.

" o-oh um... yes. Are you two Margret and Louis Divil?"

I think the next chapters are going to be kind of short if that is ok.
