I was woken up by the whale from yesterday. It sang beautifully and flew around my bed. I yawned and sat up in my bed, smiling at the blue, glittering whale.
"Hey, there. You know, if you are mine I should call you something." I said and the whale sang again, like it was agreeing.
"This is weird though. Antonio is the animal guy, not me. Why are you here then?" I asked quietly and stroked my hand over the whale as it flew closer to me. "You are so calm. I'm going to call you Lana." I said.
Though the whale had not understood me, I think it felt my decision and happiness and sang more. I got out of bed, and got dressed. I looked at the water below as I walked over the clouds to my door. Why is there water in my room? I understand that there are clouds and stars, since I can fly and make other things fly, but why water? And Lana? She's a whale. I shook my head and continued towards my door, not bothering to think about this to much.
When I reached my door, I looked back and was about to say my goodbye to Lana, but to my surprise, she was gone. I stepped away from the door and scanned the room, but saw no signs of Lana. I opened my door and walked out on the balcony. It was good to be outside in the sun, and I closed my eyes, talking a deep breath.
I turned around and was about to walk to the kitchen, when I was pulled in a tight hug.
"Elena, good to see you. Yesterday was amazing, your gift is amazing. How did you sleep?" A girl asked me and I noticed it to be my cousin, Mirabel.
I pulled out of her hug and looked at her brown eyes behind the lime glasses. "Thanks, I slept well." I said and continued my walk towards the kitchen.
"Oh come on, that can't be everything. How is it having your gift?" Mirabel asked and followed me down the stairs to the first floor. Mirabel had not been given a gift, but she was really chill about my gift now. I guess it has something to do with that Antonio got his gift after Mirabel and before me, and some family issues, that I had heard about, were solved. Antonio had told me all about it. He had said that, it was when Tío Bruno lived in the walls. I had a hard time believing that, but that happened when I was just about a year old, so Bruno had always lived with us for as long as I could remember.
"Honestly, it's amazing." I said and turned around. "I can make things float, including myself. And with all the clouds inside my room, I can make all sorts of stuff out of them."
"Yes I saw that last night. Care to show me more?" Mirabel asked and I smiled.
I gently lift Mirabel up from the floor with one hand and made her float behind me as we continued our walk towards the kitchen.
She laughed. "This is fun." I put her down and looked around the kitchen.
Casita was putting tea in cups, and I quickly made one float over and land in Mirabel's hands. With that, one tile on the counter looked at me and shook angrily.
"Sorry, Casita." I muttered and then turned around, laughing under my breath.
"Thanks, Elena." Mirabel giggled and took a sip. "We are eating outside today, and Abuela is going to discuss something about your gift." I felt a small bubble of worry rise inside me and admirable must have noticed. "Hey, it's nothing to be worried about. It's the tradition. We did that the day after Antonio got his gift."
I nodded, pushing away that worry. Of course it was just a normal breakfast with the family.
An hour later, everybody in the family sat by a big yellow table in our garden. I eyed the breakfast hungrily and reached out to grab a slice of bread, when my hand was slapped at from Antonio. I glared at him and he just chuckled, pointing with his head at Abuela who had now everyone's attention.
