Liz immediately forgot what had just happened between her and Mattheo. That had been Luna! Mattheo had just caught her by the wrist as she ran past him toward the forbidden forest.

"Are you crazy? What are you going to do without magic?" At least it was obvious, that the scream had not left him cold.

"You know what? I'll see when the time comes ", Liz felt that his hand was sweaty. Was he nervous or excited? Both were in her favor as slowly but surely her hand slipped through his fingers without her having to fight his grip.

"How many times do I have to save you before you finally listen to me!" yelled Mattheo at Liz. His anger was about to boil over.

Only.

It didn't change her decision.
"That was Luna. I can't." And with a final jerk, she tore herself away and had jumped into the thicket. She would never hesitate again when it came to her friends.

Luna wasn't hard to spot in the gloomy residue of daylight. She was lying on the ground, her arms wrapped around her head. Her light hair was a distinct contrast to the dark grass beneath her.
"Luna?" Liz dropped to her knees beside her, trying to shake her friend awake again. But Luna didn't stir. Sand trickled from her hair, but her body remained limp.

She heard footsteps behind her, someone running toward her. Liz reached for her wand out of reflex, but immediately lowered her hand. Instead, she leapt to her feet and raised her fists ready to fight - as Mattheo burst through the undergrowth. Never before had she seen such panic in his charcoal eyes. His gaze captivated her in an instinctive way.

"Shut up and stay down," Mattheo rumbled, pressing Liz to his chest. He jerked one arm up in the air and cast the signal spark spell before wrapping that arm around Liz as well, hugging her head even tighter.

She was about to complain when she noticed the trembling. Mattheo was trembling? What was going on here? But then she heard it. Or rather, didn't hear it. The whole forest had fallen silent. Not an animal, not a leaf made a sound. Only a tiny breeze rippled the grass beneath her feet.

"Mattheo?" whispered Liz, putting her hands on his chest. She was about to push him off her when every hair on her body stood up. What she had thought was wind a moment ago suddenly triggered her instinct to flee so violently that she too began to tremble. Something stood behind her. Something powerful. Its icy breath settled on her skin like dew. Her neck tensed and she could do nothing but cling to Mattheo, shaking, and pray that this creature was not hungry.

And in one fell swoop, it was all over again.

Still intertwined, they both fell to their knees. It was as if someone had thrown them into ice-cold water. They both gasped for air and still felt like they were drowning.

At that moment, voices were raised. Shouts. McGonagall was the first to step into the clearing and survey the shaken students.

"Can you stand up? How are you?" she asked frantically, already making her way to Luna.
