Liz wrapped her fingers around the burning hot mug as she watched the milky haze recede across the meadows. Summer was drawing to a close.

"What are you doing up so early?" grumbled Luna as she wrapped her robe tighter around herself. "And why are you out here?"

Liz moved over a bit so her best friend had room on the small bench as well. "Did I wake you up?" Although Liz had been given medication for it, her nightmares were worse than ever. Every night she woke up drenched in sweat, sometimes haunted by poison green eyes, other times it was Bellatrix laughing.

Maybe there is a Black in you after all.

No matter how much she fought it, the words haunted her mind and found fertile ground. Something had ruptured inside Liz that day.

"I just woke up, but I got worried when you weren't in bed anymore." She sat down and immediately pulled her legs in. "Can you believe it? We're going back to Hogwarts in a week. Just like that."

"Just like that," Liz confirmed, "like nothing happened." She lowered her face over the hot tea.

It had been two weeks since they'd released her from the hospital, but Liz didn't feel like she was back in shape. Physically, yes, but mentally?

She had woken up one morning at St. Mungo's to find a note on her nightstand.

I'm sorry. I have to take care of something.

That was all Mattheo had left her. Liz had tried to find him in the Grimauld place, but the fireplace had been taken off the floo network again. So she had taken the long way on foot, but when she had walked down the row of houses, 13 had followed right on 11. No matter how many times she had gone up and down the street. No 12.
At one point she had stood on the sidewalk, staring at the wall that separated houses Eleven and Thirteen, and had yelled for Mattheo to open the door for her. She had leaned her forehead against the cold stone of the wall and pleaded until the residents of one of the houses had threatened to call the police.

"Has he still not answered you?", Luna guessed her thoughts.

Of course, Liz had sent owls, too. Dozens of them. Still confused at first, she had asked what had happened, why he had changed the protection spells from Grimauld Place. But the longer she had gone without a reply, the angrier her letters had become. Only the diminishing number of coins in her purse had kept Liz from finally sending him a Howler.

Until the day the symbol on her chest had suddenly disappeared. The pact had been broken, but how was that possible? Mattheo was alive, Liz was sure of it. How had he been able to break the pact without spilling her blood? And why had he just left her like that after everything?

Caught, Liz shook her head.

She had almost told Luna everything. Almost. She hadn't mentioned the fact that she'd tortured Bellatrix with the Cruciato curse. Or that Mattheo had confessed his love for her....

"Well," Luna groaned in her own Luna way. "After all, we'll see him again in a week at the latest. Then you'll find out what happened."

Yes, Liz vowed. Everything would be different this year.

Now, with this huge cliffhanger, I officially conclude the first part.

Oh god there are so many plotholes XDD and I can't fix half of them.

Why wasn't Bellatrix in prison? Who actually entrusted her with this child and didn't take it away again? Where is Liz's wand anyway?
How exactly did the Death Eaters find out about Mattheo without also knowing that Voldemort didn't want him?

At first, by the way, I wanted Prof Flitwick to show up with the Aurors because I like him and he's one of the good guys. Better than Dumbledore ignoring a basilisk in school :DDD
Then it was Draco...

But now it turned out quite different.

Oh and... WHAT'S WRONG WITH MATTHEO AGAIN NOW!!!?!
Boy! Confessing love and then ghosting??? Where are we here?

Okay ;D Joking aside, it's not that simple after all.... but what exactly is going on, you'll find out in the next volume.

What is your theory?
