Mattheo had led Liz to a dock that could not be seen from the house. Two logs had been placed around a fire pit in such a way as to overlook the entire lake.
The sun had warmed the smooth wood and almost made Liz a little sleepy.

"I thought we could start a fire tonight." Mattheo thrust a rock in front of him. "Roast marshmallows and stuff. You know."

Her own giggle amazed Liz. She was happy. Honestly, and without a voice in her head trying to talk her out of this one day.

Liz pulled her T-shirt over her head. "Work first, pleasure later. If I'm about to drown, I won't have to worry about any plans."

Mattheo snorted. "I'll wait for the day you trust me."

Hesitantly, Liz pushed her toes through the glassy surface. Ripples spread from her foot all over the lake. "It's warmer than I thought," she confessed softly.

"Don't worry. We'll just stay on the shore where you can still stand." As so often in the last few days, Mattheo reached out his hand to her, and like every time before, she grabbed it. Step by step they waded into the deeper water.

Mattheo was, against all expectations, a patient teacher, but that didn't make it easier for Liz to learn. At first Mattheo had only explained and demonstrated the moves to her, but eventually the point had come when he had to touch her to correct her.
It should have come naturally. They had shared the bed night after night, had seen each other as good as naked more than once, and yet - this time was different.

Whenever Mattheo dipped down to improve her posture, Liz forgot everything she had been doing right up until a moment ago. When she put her hands on his shoulders to get a feel for how to move her legs, Mattheo would break off mid-sentence.
They could both feel it. They couldn't just be two normal teenagers.

Exhausted, Liz pulled herself back onto the dock and flopped down on the warm wood. "Break," she panted, even though the swimming itself hadn't been that strenuous.

" Break", Mattheo agreed and lay down next to her. But unlike Liz, he couldn't keep still. He kept looking over at her, only to turn away again.

"What is it?" laughed Liz finally, hoping she didn't have a bug in her hair.

"You're the first one I've ever brought here."

Astonished, she turned her head toward him. "Really?"

"I'm glad it's you."

He closed his eyes and now it was her who was eyeing him curiously. His grin revealed that he knew exactly what he was doing here. He still hadn't told her where they were or how he knew this place. It was clearly not a Malfoy country house.

Mischievously, he blinked at her out of one eye. "Well, are you bursting with curiosity already?"

That was enough! Liz jumped to her feet and with a good shove she rolled Mattheo off the end of the dock. The splashes were still raining down on her as she had to crouch down laughing.

"I thought the heat went to your head," Liz cackled as Mattheo's dark mop of curls broke through the water again.
