Afraid?

"Why?"

"Because I said to." Minutes....what felt like ages later he called me. "You can come in the kitchen now. I made us fajitas." He put a tortilla and some chicken in a plate for me. "Rice?" I nodded. "There's a bag of shredded cheese in the fridge behind you, if you want some." I got the bag out, put some on my tortilla and then passed it to Liam while we both took a seat at the table. We ate in silence for most of the time period.

"Are you afraid of me?" He asked me, taking another bite. I was so taken aback, I almost choked on the fajita bite I was chewing on. I had been trying to avoid the subject.

"What do you mean?" I asked, trying to act surprised that he would ever think that.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about." He said between bites."

"Yeah...yes."

"You don't have to be." He said, scooting closer to me.

"I-I know."

"That night at dinner...look I'm sorry it was just that-"

"Liam, I know. It's okay."

"Thank you for understanding." He put his hand on top of mine. I jumped at his sudden touch, making him pull away.

"I'm just afraid what would happen if you got that angry with me..."

"That would never happen with you, Bay. You're different." I pushed my plate away from me, the topic making me sick. After a few beats of silence Liam spoke once again. "Would you like to watch a movie?"

We went into his living room and picked out a movie. He put it in and started it and took a seat on his love seat. I sat on the couch against the wall diagonal from him.

"Come sit with me." He said. And I did. He put his arms around my waist and held me close to his chest. He reached for the blanket hanging over the chair and covered us with it. He pressed play, turned off the lights, and the movie started.

I had been growing tired, and the movie was almost over. I was struggling to stay awake in Liam's arms when his doorbell rang. Was he expecting someone else? He tapped me on the shoulder so I would move, giving him space to get up. He looked out the window to see who it could be.

"Shit. Bay, go wait in the kitchen."

"But-"

"Go wait in the kitchen." He said in a more stern, yet quiet voice.

"Liam! Mwah! I missed you!" A feminine voice said. I got an uneasy feeling in my stomach.

"D-Danielle, what are you doing here?" Liam said. His voice cracked. I heard them take a seat on his couch.

"I realized what a douche Scott is. I want you back, silly!"

"N-no."I was a little shocked. I'd never heard Liam speak in such a reserved tone. He was always so serious.

"No? What do you mean no? I still love you!"

"I, um, I have someone else." It didn't sound like she liked that.

"Someone else? We've been over for a week and your with someone else! I thought we had something special!"

"We did have something special, you ruined it." His voice cracked again. I felt bad eavesdropping on their conversation, but everything they were saying was audible from the kitchen. "I think it's time you got going now." He stood up and escorted her to the door. I appeared in the doorway, hoping to go unnoticed.

"Oh, so you're the whore!" She screamed at me as Liam slammed the door behind her. "Son of a bitch!" She screamed from outside, presumably at Liam. He stayed by the front door until we heard her car start.

"I told you to stay in the kitchen."

"I..." I started, trying to think of an excuse. Nothing. "I'm sorry."

"Can we just finish the movie?" He said. We took our places on the love seat and he pulled me close to him once again. Before Danielle decided to stop by, Liam and I would make comments about to movie to each other. But now he was silent. His breaths got faster. I leaned my head up to look at him. He was crying, or at least trying not to. His face was red and looked slightly damp. His bottom lip stuck out in a small pout. I sat myself up.

"Please don't cry."He put his thumb and index finger on either side of his head and covered his eyes. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and nestled my head in the crook of his neck. "It'll all be okay. Shh. Don't be upset." He calmed down and put his arm around me, and kissed the top of my head. We stayed like that until the credits started to roll.

"I'll take you home now."

Liam walked me up to my porch again. He placed his large hands on my small waist and gave me a kiss. "Thank you for today." He said as he turned to leave. I thought about how sad he was at his house and during the car ride. I didn't want him to be alone and sad. I caught his arm.

"Don't go." He looked at his car, then back at me. "Stay with me."
