The paramedics arrived and rushed through the door, all four of them asking me different questions at once.

"What's his name?

"Age? Date of birth?"

"What happened to him?"

I tried to hide Austin from the mess, but it was no use. He looked up at them like they were jeeps.

"Liam Payne. He's twenty one an his birthday is sometime in August." I tried to stay calm. "I-I think he tried to kill himself." I pointed to my bedroom where he was laying. Three of the paramedics went back, taking the gernie with them while one stayed with me and Austin, and questioned us.

"What do you think caused this? Has he been acting strange lately?"

"He was friends with Veronica. She was murdered last week... A week ago today."

"Do you think this could have something to do with it? What about his past?"

"He's been really upset lately. I... I don't know anything about his past. I've only known him for a few weeks." The paramedics returned with Liam's body on the gernie, an oxygen mask placed over his mouth and nose, and empty bottle of pills in one of the paramedics gloved hand.

"We need to get him to the hospital ASAP." Said the paramedic whom was pulling the gernie.

I grabbed my purse and house keys. "C'mon Austin we have to go with the paramedics."

"Ma'am... we can only have one other person in the ambulance."

I glanced out the window to Liam's black BMW. I hadn't driven a car in forever, and nothing near a BMW. But, it was my only option with Austin here.

"Not a problem." I said. I ran into the kitchen and grabbed Liam's keys off the counter and went in his car to follow the ambulance, speeding off to the hospital. "Shit." I mumbled to myself as I glanced at Austin in the back seat. He didn't have a car seat an barely fit into the area the seatbelt covered. But I pushed that thought to the back of my mind and focus on Liam, closely following the speeding ambulance. They entered the emergency part of the parking lot and I rushed into the commuter parking lot and grabbed Austin out of the back seat. I picked him up and held him in my arms and ran inside, knowing he wouldn't be able to keep with me on foot. I ran through the front door and saw the same paramedic who had questioned me talking to the receptionist.

"Where's Liam!?" I ran up to him.

"Ma'am calm down. He needs to get his stomach pumped. You can't be back there right now." I sighed in defeat and took a seat in the waiting room.

I had called both Kat and Eva who both offered to come sit with me or take care of Austin, but I turned down their offers, knowing that when Liam woke up he would want to be alone. They wished me luck and told me to call them with any news. I sat in the waiting room for an hour before the nurse came to get me.

"Are you waiting for Liam Payne?" I nodded, and she motioned for us to follow her back to his room. "He should be waking up soon now. I'll leave you all alone."

I pointed over to the window sill for Austin to go sit down. He grabbed a magazine and started flipping though pages, mumbling words to himself that only he knew the meaning to. I sat on the chair that was set next to Liam's bed. He was asleep, looking so peaceful. He had oxygen being supplied to him through his nostrils. The cuts on his arms were cleaned and wrapped, both of his forearms completely covered in white gauze, the IV needle in his left arm just above where the gauze ended. I took his cold hand in mine.

"Wake up. Please wake up." I kissed his hand then laid it back down. As if on cue, he opened his eyes and glanced around the room. "You're in the hospital."

"I should be dead."

"Stop. Don't think like that."

"I don't deserve to live. Veronica does. It should've been me. I should've been the one they found in the dumpster."

"I said stop. Don't make me get the nurse."

"I want to be dead."

"Look what you've done to yourself!"

"I should have done more."

"You deserve to be here you're a wonderful human being. Life is worth living. I want you here."

"No one wants me! I'm a waste of space!" He screamed, catching the attention of Austin.

"Liam," he said in his baby voice. "Pwease stop yelling." Except, Liam ignored him, tearing off all of the cords and tubes attached to his body. He tried to leave until two nurses came in and stopped him, sedating him once again.

"We'll have to keep him under servailence for 48 hours. He's on antidepressants now so he'll be sleeping a lot. But he's safe with us, for now."

"Thank you." I said as Austin and I took our spots in the waiting room. I called his mom to let her know what was going on as I cradled Austin in my arms and he drifted off to sleep, so innocent and unaware of the danger of the world.
