This hasn't been proof read and was wrote in the last 30 minutes so I apologise in advance 😭
Sapnap freezes, his whole body entranced by a small frame hung in the hallway of his best friend's house.
It's him, only 10 years younger and still in their old town. His arms are thrown loosely over Karl and George's shoulders, Dream having one of his spare arms to wrap around his boyfriend - now husband's - waist.
Sapnap smiles. His lips tilted into a sad smile at the memories that flooded back into his mind. Most of them are positive but even through the good there's some bad.
Sapnap remembers the day like it was yesterday. The day George and Dream found their first home and moved away from their friends. They promised to stay in touch but Sapnap knew it probably wouldn't last.
And he guesses he was wrong.
An arm is wrapped over his shoulder. A frame much larger than his own towering by his side as a soft; "you okay?" flows through his mind. Sapnap hums, blinking one last time at the picture, as if it would somehow take a picture of the picture and keep it engraved in his mind.
"We looked so stupid when we were younger." The raven haired boy scoffs. Dream chuckles back, tapping on Sapnap's shoulder with his hand. "I don't know about you, but I think I looked great."
Somehow, even after all of these years, the strawberry blond has never changed. Of course, in some ways he's matured, but he's never really changed. And Sapnap loves that about him. He loves that about all of his friends.
Dream lifts his arm from the other's shoulder. Instead he continues down the hall, as if that was all he needed to say. Sapnap follows him, deciding to join the rest of the group - family.
George sits comfortably on one of the couches. His chin stubbled with dark hairs that he definitely didn't have the week before when Sapnap had seen him last. His phone sat comfortably in his hand, replicating the teen version of himself in the 30 year old version.
God, they're old now.
Dream sits beside him, a curious eye glancing over his shoulder to sneak an eye at his husband's phone. It catches George's attention and the brunette snuggles into the man's side before redirecting his phone to give the man a better view. And just like that the two completely forget the others in the room.
"You just gonna stand there or are you gonna sit down?" Karl jokes, a playful grin flashing across his face. Sapnap rolls his eyes, letting out a sigh he didn't know he was holding before wandering over to the second couch that Karl had found himself on.
Miles sat silently by Karl's feet. His back stayed pressed against the grey fabric of the couch as his attention stayed sewn to the tv a few feet away. Sapnap watched his feet as he sat, careful of the boy below him to avoid Dream getting defensive over Sapnap upsetting the kid.
Once he was comfortable Karl instantly moved, pushing himself closer into his boyfriend's side to capture some of his warmth.
His hair was longer than before, due for a haircut, but Sapnap still loved the way it curled around his eyes. Eyes that glistened in the night and shone in the day. A light grey sea that Sapnap always found himself drowning in when he had the time. Was he ever going to get tired of this?
I mean, George is 30. Dream newly turned the age of 29 while Sapnap sat happily at 27. Karl complained about that a lot. "Why am I always in the middle?" He'd ask, huffing out an annoyed groan on his 28th birthday.
They were getting old and they didn't even realise it. Miles is already 6, blowing Sapnap's mind beyond earth. For fuck sake, he still remembers the day George cradeled the baby in his arms, a heartwarming (yet scared) smile on his face as Dream watched from behind. They became the parents they never had and Sapnap would be forever proud of them.
He could only hope the same for Karl and him. They'd talked about kids before, deciding that they both wanted at least one before they turned 30. And I guess that's what they did.
Karl's sister offered to carry their child, seeing as that way the kid would get as close to both of its parents' genes as possible. It took a while to gain the responsibility of having kids but as soon as Sapnap was ready he and Karl instantly called the nearest clinic.
And now Karl's sister is pregnant. Carrying their first child for the next 9 months. They'd be lying if they said they weren't fucking terrified. In Sapnap's mind they were still teens, drinking and joking around at every chance they got. Karl was more of a kid himself, never really maturing into the boring office worker that everyone seems to see men as.
A kid was going to ruin them, but sometimes ruining things is good. Because how are you supposed to grow if you don't leave any room for change? This kid was going to set everything in Sapnap's eyes. He'd propose to Karl, marry the boy and live out his greatest days with him.
Just like he had planned all those years ago when he had met the taller. Karl was always set to be his. That's what Sapnap believed anyway. He and Dream were big on soulmates. They dated for marriage, not fun. Dream got his soulmate, and now Sapnap was getting his.
"I'm bored." Karl mumbles, mainly to himself but Sapnap has always had a thing for hearing Karl when no one else could. "What do you want to do?" George leaving for the kitchen catches Karl's eyes. He huffs again and switches to look towards Sapnap. "Something fun."
A pan crashes in the kitchen. "Is anyone hungry?" George calls, pulling Miles out of his tv induced trance. "Me!" He calls, fleeing from his seat to run into the kitchen with his dad.
"Do you want to go out for food?" Sapnap asks, and the offer takes a while for Karl to process. He thinks, and then nods. Pulling Dream's attention from the cartoon that Miles had put on.
"You guys leaving?" He asks, almost sounding sad. "Yeah, we need to get home soon anyway." Sapnap rises from his seat, inevitably dragging Karl up with him and leaving the brunette to walk off to find his shoes.
"Yeah, true." Dream nods, overgrown hair falling over his eyes. He wipes it away and holds out his hand for Sapnap to grab.
He does, shaking his friend's hand in a half-handshake-half-high-five. "Have fun, dude." Dream grins, earning one back. "No traumatising Miles while we're gone." The comment earns the shorter a middle finger and he laughs when Dream opens his mouth to defend himself. "We don't even do it a lot, you over exaggerate it!"
Sapnap deadpans, brows lifting in a look to say 'uh huh'. "Whatever, dude. Don't act like you and Karl are any better."
"Bye!" Sapnap calls, instantly leaving the room. Dream laughs from the room behind him and Sapnap throws on his dirty shoes before meeting Karl at the door.
"Bye, guys!" Karl calls, waving even though no one can see. "Bye!" George calls, his voice faint. A high pitched voice follows and the couple assume it to be Miles seeing as Dream follows closely behind with a; "leave already!"
The duo laugh before stuming out of the door together, hand in hand as they argue over who should go first. "We're not going to get food, are we?" Sapnap asks, knowing the way his boyfriend laughed. "No, we're going to an arcade."
Eyes roll to the back of the ravenette's head, a memory he'd much rather forget playing over like a movie. He's going to lose to Karl in his 'ticket race' again, isn't he?
Most definitely.
He doesn't mind though. The smiles and jokes make it all worth it. He doesn't care how many times Karl rubs it in his face, he knows he's only going to give Sapnap whatever prize he decides to pick. That's just how Karl is, he loves to touch and stay near the other but he also loves to give gifts. I guess that's what makes them so perfect, Sapnap loves the time spent with the boy and will do everything in his power to make sure that Karl has fun wherever he goes.
"You're so gonna lose." Karl laughs, predicting the inevitable future. "Yeah, I am." Sapnap sighs, accepting his fate.
For anyone wondering, Sapnap did lose. Painfully too, and Karl made sure to boast about it to everyone for the many weeks to follow.
